Question shops that shave tires?

Does anyone know of a shop in the SJ/Milpitas area that will shave down tires? I ran over a set of keys and got a flat. The guys at America's Tire said that you can't just replace one or even two, because its an AWD car. I don't have the cash to do all 4, especially since the other 3 only have about 9000 miles on them. I was told in the tire and wheel forum that you can buy one and have the tread shaved down to match the other 3 and it will work, but I don't know where to get it done. Any help out there?

if all you got is 9,000 miles you don't need to shave anything...

I agree... it shouldn't be a problem. It sounds like the guys at american tire are trying to get more out of you and don't want you to shave so they can sell 4 more tires.

Anyway, if you do find a place and decide to shave, make sure you don't drive on that tire!! most place don't shave a tire that's been ridden on because tiny pebbles/sand etc etc get encased with the tread and will destroy the shaving equipment.

9000 miles, for me that would mean i would be way overdue for buying new tires, mine would be completely bald by then

i'm glad i didn't get a set like that or else i'd be changing them every 8months or so. Are your tires made out of play-dough!?

EDIT: I didn't think he was running anything like you wrxish unless he special ordered them through American Tire Co. About the best tire they carry in stock is Yokohama's. I assumed he's running Avs Es100's or something similar.

You might want to give Custom Alignment a call. I'm almost certain they can do tire shaving.
