Can you shave a street tire?

I had an interference fit with a curb recently and really messed up 1 of my Potenza $0-3s. I know I need to replace tires in sets of 4. Can a street tire be shaved down like a race tire can? Anyone think it would be possible to bring in 1 new tire and 1 existing tire and have them shave it down to match?

TIA.

Yep, can be done, a little pricey though. I think it is $20 or so if the wheel tire is on the car.

Nice, thanks for the tips. This will be a new tire, and I will have it mounted on my wheel. I will bring two wheels - one with an existing tire to show where it needs to be. Thanks again!

It's a lot less then buying 4 new tires, just because one tire went out on you.

I wished that I would have done that with my RE730s after running at Laguna and getting flat spots...

Tirerack will do it for you. America's Tire(Discount Tire) wouldn't mount my p-zeros because one was brand new, and the others had 10k miles on them. I measured the depth and had tirerack shave a tire to the average depth and it worked great.

Awesome! I will contact them immediately. Thanks a bunch for the tips everyone...

And thank you to whoever moved my thread for me. I always appreciate people looking out for what I really wanted to do. Shaving a tire is more of a specialized thing than you would normally find in a general tire/wheel forum for the whole USofA, which is why I posted it in my local forum.

Glad people answered my question before it was moved.

Cheers and thanks for the help everyone!

If your near castro valley Roger Kraus Racing will do if for you also, just incase it is easier. Also they do race tires and i used to work there and they are very accurate at it.
