I feel that the Subaru's are better built cars (Except for the crappy 5mt).

And defiantely we have a MUCH better community. Everybody, especially here in the bay, are all friends and mature. Even the young'ns.

Good luck with you new pimp ride!

I just don't understand how the STI is a better starting point. The chassis is not better. The starting goodies are though. And when you mod you lose anyway, no way you'll get that back.

The STi is a better starting point... way better. First, the engine... you can produce waaay more hp from the STi engine than you can with the standard EJ20... not to mention the tranny, looks, brakes, wheels, tires, seats, interior, etc... 2.5L engine ownz.

Ummm, that is correct sir.

You should have no problems whatsoever producing 500 HP and 500 ft/lbs of torque with that motor. now if that doesn't satisfy you, then you better just buy a skyline, a porsche, or a ferrari and be done with it. it's all about how you want to go about it. do you want to spend all your money in one fell swoop and have a car that's fast, but that many other people also have? or do you want to start out with a cheaper platform and build something from the ground up to compete with those more expensive cars and that you have the pride of knowing you built yourself?

I disagree on the STi being a better starting point. First off, the chassis is inferior. Secondly, it is more expensive, and limited production, thirdly, the EVO's powerplant is FAR SUPERIOR to any EJ motor.

If I was buying a car that I did not plan on modding, then I would go with the STi...but my next ride is going to be something that sits on a world class platform.

It is so easy to pull speed and power out of the EVO VIII 4G63 that it isn't even funny. With under 1G in mods, these guys are hitting traps of 110+MPH. Not that I am a 1/4 mile guy anyway, but damn...

I do not plan to buy anything soon...and I will probably pay cash for my next car...I just want to save money. I could swing the kid in my financial situation now. I am not "strapped" by any means. Being in the service, as a senior enlisted person here in the bay is $$$. This is one of the only places where you can actually make a decent living in the Navy (Yokosuka being the other).

If I an not selected for Army Warrant Officer Flight Training, then I WILL be moving to Japan in March of '04. It is then that I will make my decision on wich ride I will pursue!

BNR32 (My favorite Skyline...the least hoggish of the GT-R lineup)
S-15 Silvia (I know, RWD sucks, but damn that is a sweet car!)
Evo VI, VII, or VIII (Preferably the VIII)

Are my choices for my next platform.

USDM EVO VIII is not an option for me at this point. The lack of a 6MT, and the lack of a front LSD and ACD has turned me off. I would like to be able to vary my torque bias in my next ride.

One of the major turn offs that I have to Subaru is UNDERSTEER. My god...that is crappy in the Subaru. Even with the Sure Trac, it is still noticeable...albiet not as sever as the open front diff.

This has turned into a good discussion!

Lets debate on which is better!

Thanks all~!

Andy

Whats wrong with RWD????

Whichever you decide, i wish you the best of luck, and you better stay on the forums..or i WILL HUNT YOU DOWN! haha

Andy,

The STi hasn't been tuned to hell yet... actually, it hasn't been released yet. I really doubt the chassis is 'inferior'... it's a very ridgid chassis, with a great transmission, and even better engine. Something about a 2.5L turbo engine with forged internals makes me all wet. But seriously, this car is going to own. It already beats the evo in 1/4... imagine 1G of mods in the STi!? It'd be nuts... get that sucker way beyond 400hp, VERY easily. You'll see man... give it a few months (when the STi is released).

(PS: Evo doesn't have a front LSD!!!)

This is why you are saying the STi is inferior. You're comparing cars none of us here will ever see, let alone own. And to be honest, I cannot comprehend your claim that the Impreza has an inferior chassis compared to the lancer. The Impreza is a little heavier, but far stiffer. Stiff and heavy works for the Skyline and for the M5.

will someone explain why the 4G63 is so much better suited for making better power than EJs? i'm not arguing, just curious.

and brucelee, a few months?!?! try A month. mid-june is the current date. then again, we will have to wait for the dealers to get together and decide how much markup they want to charge. can you say boycott?

Yeah, I agree... if you wanna get some of these cars, go for it... but the EVO we get here... well, isn't all that.

The EVO's chassis is inferior to the STi's chassis!!
