I was assistant service manager at a BMW/Mini dealership last year. I'd never own either (out of warranty). Just food for thought.

MiniS' are fun! My friends parents have an '03 and they let me learn to drive on it. Immediately, I discovered my love for empty parking lots and figure 8s =]

Since we know Dan can't drive...then I guess you are right...dont get it.
With some good suspension mods...I am sure the SRT-4 would do just fine on the track. Afterall, you have to spend some money on the Mini...just to give it some decent power anyway.

The John Cooper Works Mini Cooper S is a nice ride indeed.
I would definately chop the SRT-4 off the list though, for the aforementioned reasons...

Yeah, theres no way I'd get an SRT-4... that goes against everything I stand for. ha ha ha. (Though I do admit that they are fast llittle buggers). You can take a dump really, really fast... but in the end, you're still taking a dump.
The Mini appeals to me as it is comfortable and small... like a go-kart. However, my mind is torn, and I think I might just grab my ***** and get an STi.

I wouldn't own one though.
the classic minis are sweet cars! the newer ones are nice too...CNN Money named the Cooper the Best Coupe for 2005 on the basis of handling prowess, safety rating, low price, and good options.
i'd get the classic mini in a heartbeat if i didn't need an ultra-reliable daily commuter!

I would wait a few months and go for an STi. The Mini Cooper S plus works climbs close to an STi pricewise. Plus STi's can be had cheaper now days. Plus end of model year is near. More discounts.
The down fact is again you will get challenged with the STi giant wing.
LOL yesterday I got challenged by an infinity G20.
Regards
Nick

Yeah, but you can swap trunks with lots of WRX owners who want that behemoth. I'd say wait and get an STi. It's by far the most enjoyable experience I've ever had behind the wheel of a car (and I got to drive the **** out of my SoCal buddy's the day before my wedding...think mini wedding present

How about a turbo S beetle? You get the flower cup and everything!!!
On a serious note, my dad's girlfriend has a stg 3 cooper S(more boost, intercooler, head work, and ecu tweakage). It puts about 235 to the ground and it a pretty interesting ride. I did feel a bit odd while I was driving it, but the driving experience was definately a good one. It does handle pretty good, and there was surprisingly a lot of passenger room(almost no luggage room), but for daily driving I think it's pretty harsh. I do have to say that her previous turbo'd miata was a HELL of a lot more fun, and was actually less tarnishing on the manhood than the mini, but it was a bit cramped.
