Seeking Advice on which car to get....
Hey all,
Got quotes from a 2012 wrx and 2012 sti.
Prices are as follow and they are before taxes in fees.
2012 WRX 5DR: 24,400
2012 STI 5DR: 34,500
Used 08+ STI 5DR are around 25-33k depending on mileage.
I can afford either or (because theyre giving me good money for my car lol) but does anyone have suggestions? I want the STI for the 6 speed and more ponies + all the bonus goodies of an STI. I also do not want to have any regrets going WRX. Anyone had this decision. These prices are the best i've been quoted for new but supposedly it is order to spec but realistically theyre probably gonna find one sitting at another dealership and do a transfer if they can. Anyways let me know what you guys think and hopefully I can pull the trigger. :-)

Personally, I'd go with the STi. Yes the wrx may be as fast in a straight line, but I'd rather have the extra goodies like the 6 speed and the suspension. You can obviously mod the wrx with the money left over to make it faster (like I have with my wrx), but having to deal with cops profiling modded cars and smogging a modded car is a PITA. With the sti, it's fast enough as it is.

If you can afford the better model why not get the STi? If you don't plan to ever track the car or use any of the better purposes of the STi then get the WRX. Every time i see threads like this it's pretty much comes down to the pocket book you are allowed to dip in. You are the only one that knows what you will use the car for and what you can afford. Personally after talking with people that own STi's and WRX's they all pretty much stand behind the WRX for DD duties and STi's for track duty.
It's QQ thankyouverymuch

Faster/quicker sure, but controlled and reliable? Probably not.
The STi is going to be the better deal. The only other thing is the insurance. Insurance is going to be quite different between a 2.5i, WRX and STi.
I'd go for a used unmolested STi.

Depends on your modding goals. If you plan on modding your car a lot, might as well go with the rex and spend the money to customize it to your likes. If you dont plan on modding it too much outside of cosmetic stuff, sti is the way to go imo

I wouldn't really say a protuned stage2+ (tbe, fp, ic etc) wrx with suspension goodies and sticky tires is less reliable than a stock sti with a garbage oem tune...
Id rather have the first option if money was a small issue but if I was rollin in dough id get the sti and spend $10k+ on modding it haha

I am not concerned for smog issues as i have access to a shop so i can swap back and forth but with a new one, i still have at least 6 years from date of purchase so theres no hassle.
as for how deep im going to mod ill reach as deep into my.pocket as i can. How much power can the 5spd handle vs the 6 spd?
What is the 2014 going to be? same chassis as those newer impreza?

As they come the wrx is faster then the sti in 0-60 and 1/4 mile so what do you need the 10k for, the wrx also puts more power to the wheels.
I would go with a brand new sti or wrx they are both great cars!
I was in the same boat when I bought my 06 STI. I was torn between a 05 WRX (with about 22k mi) and an 06 STI (36k mi at the time) glad I got the STI...though my real deciding factor was I love the hawkeyes...ended up paying 22,000$ and some change.
All great choices, you cant go wrong with either... good luck with your purchase!
