WRONG.

The M240G is the exact same weapon platform as the M240B. Pull off the two front heat shields on a M240B and you basically have a M240G. That said, it still shoots 7.62mm ball with disintegrating link. Paratroopers use the 240B as well, NOT the 240G. I managed to fit a 240B in my M1950 weapons case just fine when I was in. Also, the cyclic rate of the M240* is in the range of 700-950 rpm (with barrel change every two minutes and assuming no cook-off), NOT 200-600. You sure you shoot that thing? I would think (and hope) a true gunner would know his weapon system inside and out.

You did manage to get one thing right... the Marines use the M240G far more frequently than the Army.

If you're new to guns and want one I recommend going to a range and renting a variety of them before buying anything. See what is comfortable to you, and you're accurate with.

I know guys that have pieces that can ventilate ballistic vests, but their grouping is pathetic. If that's what they can do when they're relaxed I don't imagine they'll hit anything when the adrenaline is pumping.

Gagan: gun safes are a really good idea. Especially if there's little ones in the house.

As far as renting a gun at a range, note that most ranges will not let you rent a gun if you're there by yourself (that whole suicide bit). So bring a friend and have a blast.

The one good thing that's come out of this is that my old lady now accepts all of my toys. We were watching the news with the rioting crap and I said "now you see why I'm armed to the teeth" she nodded and said "I'm glad you're here to protect us in case something bad ever happens" I just grinned.

It doesn't even have to be a natural disaster, its always dangerous around here. Pretty much every holiday where the "locals" get a little aroused I pull out one sidearm with hydrashocks or eagle talons and the 18" remington 870(with combat stock and 7 round magazine extension) and prepare. I hope I never have to use them, but I will gladly turn someone into hamburger if I feel my family or myself is in danger.

One thing I'd note, for general safety and home protection a shotty is the way to go. When the adrenaline is pumping you don't want to have to rely on your shooting prowess to hit an attacker and not have a round go through the wall and kill your neighbor, or miss the attacker and have him get to you first. A shotty is point and shoot. Buck shot doesn't travel well through walls(it will but not the same mass and enery as something like a .40 JHP) and with a short enough barrel you'll have a good spread. My shotty is my main defense, the sidearm is a last resort.

i keep saying that until i'm blue:

best home defense weapon is still the shotgun. nothing like point and shoot.

and 99% of the time, the sound of a shotgun racking is enough to stop all threats... (okay... maybe 90%)...

I agree, and is the reason I keep my Remington 870 police model next to my bed at all times. I also keep a shorty Mossberg 500 Security model (8 shot capacity!) in the bathroom in case of an emergency. I load them with birdshot first, if that doesnt kill the treat, buckshot is lined up next.

might not be the same brand , but they do carry frangible ammo. probably something made specially for the USAM...

glasers are like $20 for 10...
