Rounded Nut during Engine Mount install

Can someone help a Noob out?

While trying to take off the old engine mounts, I ended up breaking my craftsmans 14mm socket, and rounding the nut on the passenger side. It is the nut that goes through the cross member.

Since there is very little space, I don't know how, or have the tools to get this nut out.

Can someone help me out?
I need help bad.
I'll even buy you dinner.

TIA

14mm Craftsman box end wrench FTW. If you're really prepared, maybe even a ratchet wrench would work. I'd also use PB or some other lubricant to un-freeze the nut.

Use a file to try to "square" off the sides a bit so you can fit a wrench on the sides and get a grip on the nut.

The problem is I can't get a box end wrench onto the nut because there is simply no room.

I did buy this one,

but couldn't put a socket on it.

Maybe I'll try the one with a 1/2 or 3/8 internal drive head....

Man, this nut really owned me...

This happened to me too on the same nut! If it isnt too stripped, try hitting it with an impact wrench - it totally worked the first time. But be warned you will have to replace both the nut AND washer (the impact wrench will cause washer to warp)

my dada always went with the locking pliers and a hammer way of getting things done.

something tells me it's a bad idea.

are there any flat sides at all?

i got a set of wrenches that grabs the flats, rather than the corners...

lol, same **** happened to my buddy when me and him were taking his head studs off on his H22. Those damaged nut removal sockets works great. extension and breaker bar? or you can get a smaller size socket, and hammer it in so its in there tight. ... but be prepared to lose that socket cause it'll most likely not come off the nut

I guess this is more common than I originally thought.
This is the first install that I did where I ended up rounding a bolt/nut.

I've done numerous bushings, sway bars, and what not.
First time I've broken a SOCKET!
Thank the lord for Craftsmans lifetime exchange policy.

I ended up buying the Craftsmans bolt out with 1/2 drive head.

I think I'm going to wait until this wkend at mulcibre's install day to try it out. In case I can't remove the nut, then I have others to try to help me out with different options.

I feel so defeated by this one little 14mm nut..........
and I really wanted to try out these Group N engine mounts this week.

uughhh... I did the exact same thing. I totally feel your pain. I tried to drill it out and everything, in the end I had to dremel the damn thing off.

As for the nut, it's hard to find a replacement unless you go to a dealership. It's a grade 8 nut, and I found that it's pretty rare to find one in that size, and eventually had to call a specialty nut/bolt shop to get them.

good luck on getting it off.

^^^^I actually went to the dealership to get a replacement nut. The guy looked up the part, but they were OOS on them.

He ended up giving me a couple free 14mm nuts which he said were used for the exhaust.

I tried them and they seem to fit fine. The threading is the same but the nut head is roughly 1mm smaller in diameter.

Can you believe Stevens Creek Subaru gave me a free nut? I was expecting to pay an arm and a leg for it.
