Anyone else think the olympic half pipe and slope style were a joke?
So tired of all the media folks feeding in to this Shaun White hate. Between that and the two jack asses on the US team saying they hoped he wouldn't podium... just tired of it.
Shaun White was nothing but classy through the entire process. He tried to improve the course to help raise the level of competition. No one listened and look what happened.
The dude is 27. He's been dominating a long time but he's got some years left. But if people keep taking the fun out of it they're going to rob fans of snowboarding of time watching one of the best of all time ride.
It's happened before and not just in snowboarding. People get to the point that he is... the highest paid, biggest name, most successful... and people get tired of loosing. They celebrate the rare times they don't succeed. The drive them away from the sport or at the least don't revel in what they're seeing.

These guys that are driven to succeed. Guys that put being liked on a lower priority level. Etc.
1. The course sucked
2. The media coverage was about as bad as it gets
3. The competitors should be ashamed of themselves
4. I felt like it was a complete let down from beginning to end.

Should have been at the end of your post. Lol.
I dont watch much tv unless its the news or national geographic so I missed this.
I don't think you can put Craig, and Terje on a comparison with Shawn White. They were both amazing ridders, and ahead of their time, but the difference with them is they never lost sight of the pure fun of snowboarding.
Shawn is all about winning, nothing else. When red bull built his half pipe he wouldn't let any of his friends use it. When Kevin Pearce's half pipe was built, he invited all his friends along to train on it.
I admire him for his talent, but his character just kills it for me.

I completely agree. I also am not a fan of contest snowboarding especially pipe due to the fact that it gets so much hype, and I wouldn't classify myself as a hater but I don't like Shaun White's style and publicity (and the fact that he's sponsored by Target). The hate is a byproduct of celebrity status which lots of riders don't like... we would much rather watch E-Jack bumming around in a 90's legacy and throwing no-grab 3's and such in the backcountry.

Gonna hit up Mt Rose on this holiday weekend. BA's report says 6-9" above 8000 so Mt Rose should be pretty damn good, and the whole mountain is open finally. Anyone down to venture out that way and get some turns in I have $39 buddy tickets...holler at me. I plan on heading up Sunday.

Exactly. That's kind of my point. You need people like him to push the sport. He carried it on his shoulders for a while there. Do you honestly think people would be doing corked 1440's if it wasn't for White? If he hadn't pushed the sport so far that for people to beat him they had to try impossible ****?

Thinking about doing my annual trip the last weekend of the month... 29/30th.
I've had a craptastic season of bad timing but that's the current date.
My plan would be to leave after work on Friday. Ride Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues.
Come home either tuesday night of wed morning or if I can still walk ride a half day on Wed and come home wed afternoon.
Who's down?
