Reputable Subaru Shops in the OC
Anyone know of any reputable subaru shops in the OC? Looking to check out a sti there and want to go take it to get the full inspection first just in case.

There aren't any in Orange County.
That being said, in Monrovia there is a shop whose reputation is only equalled by one other shop in the United States - LIC Motorsports.
Suby Specialties, in Monrovia, CA knows more about Subaru than Fuji Heavy Industries, and is one of only two shops I'd trust completely without EVER having to question the work, watch the work being done, or otherwise check up on their work.

And yes, when I lived in Port Hueneme (90 miles away), I'd drive past at least half a dozen "Subaru" mechanics to take our car there.

Wow, for some reason this ignorant statement pisses me off more than usual, maybe I'm just in a bad mood. However, that's beside the point.
Anyway, there's 3 places I would trust my car. One in Irvine, one in Fullerton and one in Anaheim. However, if Suby Specialties works for you, then cool.
I personally have never been there, but FWIW, a friend of mine I met at Cal Poly Pomona took his car there and found the owner drunk which was enough to keep me away from them.

What other shops do you recommend around here?
i went to school at ucsd and had such a hard time finding a decent shop down there(including LA/OC area). It seemed like it was always 50/50 on negative reviews to positive reviews on any given shop in socal. And because of that I would wait for my breaks so that i could come back and go to LIC. This being said, I havent heard any negatives on Yimisport and had I stayed down there permanently I would have tried them.

Closest one to you is Mavrik Motorsports in Fullerton. Teddy is an awesome mechanic and has a great business ethic. He may be a bit more expensive, but he'll take care of you. Even bought me lunch when I was waiting for my car to be tuned. He has tons of experience and constantly does business with Japan so he can source JDM parts if you need them.
The one I currently send my car to, is Project Import (sounds kind of like a ricer place, but they're legit
) in the Anaheim/Orange area. A lot of Honda stuff, but they're main cars are Hondas and Subarus. Steve know his Subarus and some of the employees have modded Subies as well. What I love about this place is they take pictures of everything they see/work on and email it to you to keep you updated throughout the entire process. They actually fixed a lot of problems I had from another mechanic, Garage Tuning, also in the Anaheim/Orange area. Stay away from them, they've become extremely sloppy in their work and have cut a ton of corners. There's a reason why their best engine builder left and never wants to deal with them ever again (now main engine mechanic at Irvine Subaru).

Yeah, I met him a few years ago. I stated in your derivative thread that I graduated from there in '09.

What about EDO in Huntington beach, or Harman Motive in torrance?
When I got my current sti it was down there and I had EDO do a compression test. I drove the car first then left a deposit check with a bill of sale stating the deposit and rest of payment was contingent on the sti passing the compression test and inspection.
Heh, I also wrote a guy a check to have it clear bra'ed after It passed inspection, so my paint would last on the way back to the bay area.

Never been to EDO, but HarmanMotive is no longer in business. It's been bought out by another shop. No idea what's happened to it since then, but had a decent experience with Dan Harman before it was sold.

Rally Sport Engineering. Probably the only place in the OC that I'd trust.

Paul knows his stuff and has worked with Subaru directly for years. He's a really good guy and a long time friend. You won't be disappointed.

While Harman Motive is no longer in business the shop that took over most of there business is AQ Motorsports. While I have not had any work done on my car by them personally I have done business with them and they are stand up guys and worth checking out if you are in the area.
