Packing.org is down otherwise they have a great(by great I mean really F^&%ing depressing if you live in the Bay Area) map of issue vs no issue counties. Some are almost as free as in other states.

Unfortunately you are in the Bay Area and you would probably spend less time in jail if you were a illegal immigrant MS-13 multiple felon with a gun, than a law abiding tax paying, job having, subject. who had to protect himself from the
above.
Now if you were rich or famous (Sean Penn perhaps) or maybe greased the right palms...

Fortunately you learned a good lesson the other day in that the .gov cannot protect you (nor are they liable for your protection see Warren vs. DC 1981). and it only cost you a dent vice your life.

And as a sign held up by an Oakland PD member at a Association picket read.."When seconds count we are minutes away". In most cases the Police would get there in time to clean up the stain left by you and yours.

I actually have a permit (from Florida) which of course does me no good here. They waved the training portion because I had recently qualified M-9 for the AF, and its good for 5 years and reciprocal in the most of the states I have interest in visiting. Not Nevada (but they are Shall issue too) The last state I was at went Shall issue a couple months before I got orders here..

As far as an air soft gun goes (it's a damn good way to get your self killed, and carries the same charge as a real gun if you get caught with it.

If you do decide that a gun is your best defense solution (as many have and will continue to do) I would recommend training, and practice. For you, the wife, and kids if they are old enough. A firearm is not a magical talisman that will save your *** just by having it around (those folks that just buy the gun load it and carry it are usually the same folks you read about that shoot themselves or a family member.) In this case ignorance can kill you. The NRA gives free IIRC basic pistol courses, or if you know a gunner most are happy to teach you the basics (as in the 4 rules). And a day at the range is always fun.

Remember though when driving you are in control of one just over 1 ton of metal. If a guy jumps out in front of your car in order to do you harm just remember the word "Divine Wind".

Another good article on Police protection (or lack there of is here)

we're looking at a place tomorrow afternoon.

Bought $400 a month more in rent. Smaller. But it's closer to work for both of us which would be cool. Like 20 minutes closer. Looks like we'll be able to keep the dogs and what not which was a must for me.

Crap part is...my caddy needs to get the motor back in it and we still have a truck to get rid of and a dog to find/get to its home.

good luck ray... keep the truck until after the move, you might need it.

As for the dog, call KFOX and see if they are willing to help... I know they have a Pet-O-Rama thing once week to find new owners for the pets.

Once again, good luck!

The truck doesn't move. It's a 58 apache. Thing was gonna be the wife's project truck but it's a basket case.

If I had the tools I'd cut it up for scrap and sell the good parts...glass, grill, etc.

just keep your guns at home and enough gas to get there? You'll never get a permit in ca.
