reasons to move there... BAIC
i have been playing with the thought of moving to your area...
thoughts? if and when i do my areas of expertise are sales and finance(particularly Subaru) -
any tips? dealerships that are reputable to work for? property values? one thing that attracts me so is the availability to just drive... and plus i need a change.
hawaii gets kinda old after a while...
thanks for your input guys.

i personally like the Bay Area, but i suppose i am biased since i'm a CA native (originally from SoCal). Sometimes the traffic is bad but i cant think of anything about this place that really bothers me. housing is expensive, the value of the condo i live in has more than double since '96, but i imagine hawaii is too. very predictable weather and every climate; beaches to snow.
of the subie dealers i have dealt with, Stevens Creek is evil and all other( Santa Cruz and Diablo in walnut creek) are great. there is also a great subie community, although i havent vetured far out of the south bay. we have alot of race tracks if thats your thing and the SCCA and NASA are strong over here.
all in all, i like CA

In California, cost of living is high as well. It costs quite a bit to own a two bed and bath home. Well, it also kind of depends on which part of California you're moving to. Some parts are expensive, some parts are really expensive, for the most part: almost anywhere in Northern California costs quite a bit.

If you like Hawaii, then move to Santa Cruz.
It is the most awesome place to be in California.
If you want to do sales but can't hook up a job at a Subaru dealership, PM me about a job at SurfControl(www.surfcontrol.com).
There are more awesome driving roads here then you can shake a stick at, lots of subies, and lots of everything else you have/don't have on the islands. The only thing you will really miss is the seafood, but even that can be special ordered.

For 400,000 you'll get a crappy condo.
We looked at a 3b/2ba condo in a **** area of San Jose for $419k this weekend, and I'd rather kill myself than spend that kind of cash to live there, no matter how "great an investment" purchasing is. Not to mention we'd have to spend ~30k to get the place into decent livable status.
If you're not rich (>200k/yr income), don't come here. Go to the central valley or sacramento...same road access, but affordable properties.
"Nice" but small homes start at ~550. Two nice livable places in South San Jose (giving me "only" a 55 mile commute), were 567k and 599k, both small 3b/2ba ~1500sqft.
