ESX is just one exception. Besides, if you want to be as fast as them, you can buy a stock WRX and then spend an ADDITIONAL $31,000 on their motor/tranny package. Would you like to own a $60,000 Subaru WRX? I think not.

Going from AWD to RWD in the context of a WRX seems like a downgrade for me.

AWD is one of the reasons I bought my '90 Talon TSi AWD. It's also one of the main reasons I bought my WRX.

There are already a ton of good RWD cars out there.

It's like if I bought a house and made sure that it had a 3-car garage so I could work on my rods. Then a year later I demolished the garage and turned it into a car port with a big skateboard halfpipe next to it. I just took away one of the reasons I bought the house in the first place. It might be cool and not many people have done it, but...

I didn't want to own a $30k WRX either... But here mine sits. Every time I add up the price I think of a slightly used Z06 sitting in my driveway and I get all misty-eyed.

Have you ever seen the magazine "Modified" when they list the $ that went into certain cars? They also do this on NOPI Tunervision in the show car segments. There are a LOT of $40-75k Honda Civics running around out there... Quite a few $70-$100k RX7-Supra TT's out there as well. When I think of spending that kind of money, I'm surely not thinking of a RX7 or MKIV Supra...

I know what you mean. I too wouldn't mind a Z06 sitting in my WRX's parking space....

If you are trying to build a drift car, RWD is what you want...

thats what they are trying to do, build a drift car.

why is everyone bashing what they are doing? whats wrong with a WRX Drift car?

As for defeating the purpose of buying a WRX......why would you be defeating the purpose? if you love the WRX then why not adapt it to the use you want it for? the guy obviously likes the WRX but to use it for drifting he had to make it RWD.

I think what they are doing is cool, and original, just because its not what a Subaru usually is (awd) , doesn't mean that its not cool...

The RWD mod is purely for drifting, that's it. There is nothing else to be gained from converting from AWD. The WRX can be drifted as it is, but it's difficult and you have to be going much faster than a RWD vehicle to do the same drift.

by the way, i think the Sti's differential solves the wrx drifting problems but i could be wrong...

its wak to make a drift WRX? why?

the guy obviously likes drifting and wants to be able to do it easily with his WRX, and drifting is becoming more and more popular (in the states) so he could just be one of the first people that like it...

I thought I'd just throw in my 2 cents here. After watching the D1 Drift Session, who wouldn't want their car to drift

On the street its almost useless unless you have to travel through hairpin turns or very curvy streets a lot, but even then. You burn through a lot of tires. It looks fun. I'd love to do it. For the total fun factor. That is if I knew how It's a totally interesting, fun, smoke creating, and expensive! technique.

If I saw a wrx drift, I'd be seriously impressed. Because its a awd. Drifting an awd is almost next to impossible, though I heard it is possible, but extremely hard. [ Note: This is just from what my subaru enthusiast's tell me I can't give any factual data because i never done or tried it myself. ]

Go for it! I'd like to watch and see. Just don't plow right into my car when you drift. heh.

if i had the money to buy another transfer case and dif and drive shafts. I would do this in a heart beat...

can you say less drive train loss at high speeds?

My car would become even more of a freeway demon, plus how bad *** would it be to bust drifts at 130 so easily?

haha i would love to do this just for the fun i would have mucking around like that..

not having alot of traction can be boatloads of fun.
