RC cars questions?
whats up fellas, i know some of you guys are totally into this thing. my little bro is getting into it, and has about 320 bucks to spend on a car (i am alraedy givin him a remote)
he wants a road car, perferably a suby nitro (gas). so, what would you guys reccommend? i used to have a t3 eletric truck back in the day, fun fun times. He would rather build it than get it straight outta the box, that is why he is secong guessing this http://www.hobbytron.com/CEN-Nitro-S...-73-4-mph.html
anyone know of where to buy, good deals, and whats a good car for him. of course faster the better, but within reason of his 320 dollar account.
help me out if you can folks

I have a HPI RS4 RTR3 that i picked up a few years ago. I'm actually trying to sell it right now but when i took it out it was pretty fun. I put a two speed on it and changed the intake and exhaust. The thing went pretty fast for minimal mods. Good thing you going to give him a radio b/c the ones that come w/ these kits are pretty weak.
This is their site. http://www.hpiracing.com/index2.htm
The newer version of my car is the RS4 3 evo.

IMO, that CEN is garbage.
Go with something like a Team Associated Nitro TC3 shaft driven. Then get that Scooby Body (you can get one that's like above or a WRC '01 made by HPI as well). Also, it's race ready. Has two-speed transmission and all those goodies. You just gotta buy the engine seperate.
That HPI RTR 3 mentioned above is great. I had one. Good newbie friendly car. Nice two speed. However, if he wants to build it, I'd go with something like I mentioned above. It's a great experience learning the components of a car.
Where do you live? I can recommend some great hobby shops.
BTW, I'm building up a WRC '01 Subaru Rally Car R/C.

The TC 3 is a good car. The HPI is also good. I am mainly into off road buggys but do have a CEN that I inharited. Yeah they are fast, but not much else.
Don't worry about a body style right now, I would say go with a RTR..
He may want to build his own and that is great, but don't forget that you are spending around $300.00 just for a body. The $160.00 for an OS 12-TR engine, another $60.00 for a descent pipe. Then you need to think about servos. I know you are giving him a radio, but his steering servo is critical unless you have a good one you are already getting him. I like the Hi-Tech digital servos, around $80.00.
The Kyosho RRR is an awsome TC but is is $450.00+
The TC3 has been around a while, parts support and tunign support are a breeze.
Throw some Tamya shocks on it and you have a serious contender.
I would have him check out RAMS RC club. They are at Mission collage on Sundays. They run a lot of 1/8 and 1/5 but there are some 1/10 guys there too.
Pick up a copy of RC Extreme www.rc411.com
They have great reviews, and some of the best and only dyno data for engines in the business. Drop a line in there forums, and I think you will get the same responce.
CEN is a small market share, and you are better off getting the RS4 RTR or TC3 RTR. From there he can upgrade as cash alows, and there are tons of hop up parts for the TC3.
