yea why do you? wont the purpose of a lens hood be defeated if you get a shorter one? but to answer your question.... it should be yes because the hood and filters should be sharing a universal threading on the screw mount. (unless yours lenses are proprietary to its own manufactured accessories... then ur screwed)

the mount for the two biggest brands nikon and cannon are not universal, so make sure the foot of any new lens is designed for your camera. most companies that make lenses other than the camera manufacturer make feet for both.

This seems to have gotten more off topic with each post

If you're talking about the actual hood, then any (at least made by canon) hood should fit. The lens hoods do not use the filter treads, not have anything to do with the body mount. However, using a shorter hood than that supplied with the lens may defeat the purpose.

sorry, should have post it over at photo??

well...I'm shooting indoor sport, and was thinking of shorter hood will cover the light a bit and not too long to run around with...cause the hood on the 24-70 is big...lol

you can get an adapter to make a nikon mount onto a canon body.

screw-in hoods actually screw into the filter threads.

i usually use the hood to protect the front element, so if it blocks glare too that's great. i just tried swapping the hoods on my 80-200/2.8 with the 17-35/2.8. both of them being 77mm, they don't fit each other. one of them is actually wider than the other.
