quick ? about downpipes

hmm so a shop says it's not bad, but it seems the consensus here is that it's bad?
i'm not going to put the DP on until i get an AP to stay on the safe side, but i wonder why some people think it's ok, others don't. any shops want to chime in on this lovely debate?

we always tell folks to make sure you have engine management to ensure proper tune w/ a TBE.
Will it run w/o it yes. is it advised, no. Will most people do what they want...Most often yes. It is what it is.

i guess the shop(won't name, but in norcal) that has very good reputation said i'd be okay with turboback is wrong? I think i'll take the word of the guys that work on subies everyday then ones who don't. again, ur car will be fine just dont beat the hell out of it.
