if there was ever a candidate for state administered castration.... you, sir, are it.

the point where the explosive thrust of the engine is "transfered", as you put it to drive the plane forward is RIGHT AT THE BACK OF THE ****ING ENGINE.

answer me this Hawking: how come my car can drive down the road without wings?

Why do you have to be a dick?

Just to clairify your point, A plane can go from zero ground speed to flight, correct?

OK.

Look at the picture.

The plane is moving right to left @ 150mph.
The conveyor is moving left to right @ 150mph.

How fast is the wheel spinning, in mph?
How fast is the plane moving, in mph, relative to the ground(conveyor)?
How fast is the plane moving, in mph, relative to the air/objects not on the conveyor?

Alright, again I am just trying to understand this. But my answers would be.

Wheel is spinning at 150mph
The plane is moving 150mph relative to the conveyor, but the conveyor is moving at 150mph to counteract that movement.
The air objects would not be moving

wrong. 150 + 150 = 300. ever done donuts in the ice? speedo reads 60 but you are going nowhere... same idea

OK. think of it like this. You're in a car coasting down a hill in neutral. are the wheels providing any force to keep the car in motion? no. the only forces acting on the car are gravity the resistance provided by the air its moving through.

imagine this... put a rocket car on a dyno. mad whp right? wrong. 0 whp. the wheels are only present to reduce friction. how bout a helicopter on a tread mill? planes and helicopters operate on the same basic principals. COuld the helicopter take off?

"Of Course! you asshat!" i hear you say... your thinking that the wheels have some sort of mechanical connection to the plane and the ground like a car. they don't.

Moron.
You forgot friction in the wheel bearings.

See, was it that hard to play nice.

I understand what your saying. I just didnt think that the plane could create enough force under the wing to take off at zero ground speed.

I have seen jets take off by hovering then rotating the engines to propell them forward. It just didnt look as if that was the same case as a passanger plane.
