Question for The Scientist in here

I know this isn't Suby realted but I know ther are some scientist on this board and I need to get an answer to a basic science question.

If I have 1M Tris and I wanna make 50mM of Tris how do I go about doing it. Assume I wanna make 1L of 50mM Tris. Do I use the equation M1 x V1= M2 X V2?

So that to get 1L of 50mM I need to use 50 mL of 1M Tris and just add 950mL of water? I"m a little rusty since I haven't had to make dilutions in 2 years.

Thanks,

Jason

Hey Jason,

Your calculation was perfect.

M1 x V1 = M2 x V2

(1000mM) x V1 = (50mM) x (1000mL)

V1 = 50mL topped up to a liter with H20.

If you need any more help, let me know.

Naw I'm applying for grad Fall 2006 admissions, so if things go according to plan I would say 4 years to finish, maybe a little change so that puts me at 2010. Was a little burned out after undergrad work so I took some time off to earn some money and actually buy myself a decent car I'm planning on either getting my Ph.D. in Micobio or virology, or perhaps genetics. I really want to do research at the CDC. There has to be some way to treat viruses, and I want my shot at looking for ways to do that.

What school are you planning on finishing in 4 years?

Stanford's average was 5.5 when I left. I got extremely lucky and was able to finish in 4.5. Half the progression depends on what project you choose. Of course how hard you work helps too.

Good luck.

wow PhD in microbio, virology or genetics...pretty ambitious...gluck with it...yeah we have too many lethal viruses out there without any means of treatment....whats your opinion on this whole stem cell research issue, you think that can help cure the major ailments, illnesses and diseases we have out there?
