Sup all, I will be relocating to Cali some time soon. All i can think about is man i got a Stg 4 WRX, not a loud exhaust, but not quiet. I'm gonna be getting a FMIC soon and was wondering Do they tend to haress cars more w/ modifications that stick out like that? What do you guys do or am i just overreacting?
I'll be based out of MCB Camp Pendalton so guys in that area or that are close to it, could you please chime in. Thank you, Mario

The cops are at both ends of the spectrum down there. My brother and a friend of mine were down there for a while in the Marines. Some cops are really cool because many of them were in the military themselves while others are just hard asses that either hate the military or are just 'by the book' type of cops. Overall, cops are cracking down on modified cars all over the state, especially the CHP. If you have something like a FMIC, it just screams out to pull you over and check your car further. Just be careful.

I have only been pulled over 1 time and asked to "pop the hood". If you are not doing anything stupid, I have found that most cops look the other way. I drive next to cops for miles, drive past them, and have parked next to them...no issues. So, it really depends on the police officer.
But yes CA sucks as far as mods goes.

Damn
So do any of you guys have that APS front mount that is stealthy? I really couldn't see my self spending 1800 on a FMIC but if it'll keep my car less noticalbe i'll do it. Thanks for all the replies guys

I used to drive a dumped 240 with a big exhaust and would get pulled over all the time for no reason. The cops wouldn't really tell me why they pulled me over until later.
WRXs seem to attract less attention than more traditional rice rockets. At least in my experience.

The CHP has started a thing where they want anyone who sees an out of state plate to call them and report it because CA is losing so much income to people keeping out of state registrations.

CA is lame... "Let's cut state funded schools significantly, but make sure we put millions of dollars into vans equipped with smog devices to report gross polluters as they drive by. Oh yeah, let's also not tax casinos on reservations, when we could easily make billions doing so like the other states..." You can all thank Gray Davis for that one...

mario, here's a thread with link to an article on cops trained to spot modded cars.
