Question A question about Car Modifications in Cali

Sup all, I will be relocating to Cali some time soon. All i can think about is man i got a Stg 4 WRX, not a loud exhaust, but not quiet. I'm gonna be getting a FMIC soon and was wondering Do they tend to haress cars more w/ modifications that stick out like that? What do you guys do or am i just overreacting?

I'll be based out of MCB Camp Pendalton so guys in that area or that are close to it, could you please chime in. Thank you, Mario

Yes in CA if you have an intake you go to jail. The upside is if youre in the service you can probably get most if not all of the stuff written off by a superior officer?

I have only been pulled over 1 time and asked to "pop the hood". If you are not doing anything stupid, I have found that most cops look the other way. I drive next to cops for miles, drive past them, and have parked next to them...no issues. So, it really depends on the police officer.

But yes CA sucks as far as mods goes.

If you can keep your car registered out of state it will not be a big problem at all. I dont know what the rules are on that though.

So if i keep my Hawaii plates i won't have to confirm to state laws?? That can't be right?. Then everyone would do that. Right?

Well yes, everyone would do it, but it would require residency out of the state. You cannot just get out of state plates unless you are actually from out of state. They still might try to pull you over and harass you, but they will not be able to write you any illegal modification tickets.

The CHP has started a thing where they want anyone who sees an out of state plate to call them and report it because CA is losing so much income to people keeping out of state registrations.

What are they gonna do. I have NY plates and will probably keep them all summer while I am home. I am a NY resident and have a NY d/l. They really can't force me to get Cali plates or kick me out of the state.

CA is lame... "Let's cut state funded schools significantly, but make sure we put millions of dollars into vans equipped with smog devices to report gross polluters as they drive by. Oh yeah, let's also not tax casinos on reservations, when we could easily make billions doing so like the other states..." You can all thank Gray Davis for that one...

mario, here's a thread with link to an article on cops trained to spot modded cars.
