Pulled over for speeding - will you admit?
On my way home from Va-Jay Jay meet coming up from 880 south to 238, I have been driving pretty much on the speed limit all the way from Milpitas but 2 miles from my exit, I punched 4th gear for about a couple of seconds and let go... just my luck a CHP was apparently coming from 880 north that I didn't see... Make a long story short, he pulled me over and asked me how fast I was going. I said about 70... He went back to his car and came back and had me sign my ticket. As he was leaving he said that I knew that I was going 90 and that had I told him the truth, he would have NOT given me a ticket. Would you have done what I did or admitted guilt?
Bummer!

If he didn't get you with radar and didnt have enough time to pace you i would contest it like others have said and i would take any help offered.

It just depends on the officers attitude... I got hit with radar doing 103 in a 55 zone. Chick chp officer asked if I knew gow fast I was going... I said no. She had me get out of the car and walk to her cruiser... showed me the radar still glashing 103.
She was nice though. Got a 99+ ticket. Over 100 means min. $1k fine, impounded car, and arrest... whew...

Similar story here, just i wasnt racing a friend. i was flying to work hovering close to 90 playing with a car that i saw on my daily commute and we would always mess with each other. was on 280 coming up on Meridian exit and CHP had me with radar, pulled me over and asked if i knew why i was getting pulled over. I said yeah, i was going a bit fast. He smiled told me to keep it at 74 and wrote me a ticket for going 75 and thanked me for being honest.

I commute 280 from 85 to 92 5 days a week. Ive been lucky but to be honest i never see police on my way home at 11pm. Must be shift change.

Um, this might seem quite obvious, but you NEVER tell them you know what speed you were going, even if you are lying about how fast you were going. Just admit to speeding and let him figure it out, because if he doesn't have you on radar and didn't pace you for some distance, he'll have to come up with something.

Always wondered why i didnt get a ticket for letting off @ 75 when i saw a cop beam me. I guess just keep up with traffic and you blend in?!

I have been told that by a number of CHP officers that if you keep it at 74 and below they will "usually" leave you alone. Its when you are going 10mph and above they go after you unless the cop is the type to go after anything above the speed limit.

That's bull. Depends on the cop and how he feels that day. Plus if you are doing something stupid in conjunction with speeding (weaving, obviously racing, etc...) your chances are a lot higher.

Requiered viewing for living in the US. Long, but very worth the while.
The tl;dr of it though is *anything* you say to a cop can be construed, creatively or not, to get you. This isn't even necessarily a vindictive move on their behalf, it's just their job so far as they see fit. It ain't perfect, they are human as you are, and you need to be ready for that.
