PSP question...
looking to pick up one ofthese this week, sounds like you can modthe version 1.5s but not any of the newer ones? found a couple on craigslist Im gonna check out, how can I tell if they are v1.5?
There is a way to know loaded software via the serial number (something about one of the letters)... i forget the details but a quick net search should reveal the details.
It's honestly not important unless you have your heartset on using modded software and loading really old games on it, etc.

you cant. unless you get the serial #.
the oldests one came with 1.00 and you can use the mods for it.
i had 1.00 and upgraded to 1.5. then i finally upgraded to 2.00...
like the browser. not much of a game player, but do like the audio and video player parts of it...

on the PSP... go to settings->system information
there should be an entry for system software
You can't really tell w/ the serial # on a used PSP since the owner may have done a network update

go to the memory card section and scroll down and it should tell you the version you have. Sony is going to make it so that psp can downgrade back to the 1.0 versions. for the 1.0 you can download actual psp games onto your memory card and use emulators and roms. Too bad i found out after I upgraded to the 2.0 version
