Priceline anyone?

Just checking to see if anyone here has used Priceline to book a hotel using the "name your price" feature and how it turned out. Im looking for a deal on a hotel in downtown San Diego but it looks like i'll have to shell out 150+ for shack with a toilet.

TIA

Checkout the biddingfortravel.com - San Diego forum. People post up the results of their Priceline bidding for hotels, so you can get a good idea of how much to bid, and where you can end up.

Perfect! This helps a ton. I just didn't want to end up in some rat hole.
My friends are staying at the W but from the looks of this I might be able to land something comparable for a 1/3 the price.

i use the places with the best commercials...priceline is ok, but i prefer to go with the roaming gnome "I've come to enforce the guarantee!!! oh bunkum" Travelocity

Search using kayak.com as well.

I have used Priceline for hotels with success, not in San diego though. I generally tell people to select 4 stars in the area you want and bid $99. That usually works fine for me.

I tried the priceline thing but for some reason it didn't work out to well. Travelocity seemed to have the best rates

Done it a couple of times :

Good : up in Napa one fall, got a screaming deal on a nice room in a Marriott (I think)

Bad : used it for a Holiday Inn in Shreveport LA. Hotel itself was OK, but the room was literally within 25 feet of TRAIN TRACKS. Moved to another room, but didn't help a lot. Oh well, Shreveport is sort of a dump anyways and nothing Holiday Inn could do about that part of it
