Poll: Street Racing
Hey everyone, I got an assignment for speech class. It's to debate the legalization of street racing. I won't put up my stand about street racing, but I just want to see your opinions so I can put it to education use
Let me know your stand on it. Please don't hijack my thread and turn this into a flaming

consider this argument. It works well here in the bay area.
why street race at all?
1) you have 2 major drag strips within 3 hours (sears point and sacramento)
2) you have 4 racetracks within 5 hours of the bay area (sears point, laguna seca, thunderhill, and buttonwillow)
3) you have very active autocross communities local to your area (SFRregion http://www.sfrscca.org ), the saco region, and NASA for montery bay, plus the corrvette, BMW and other car clubs running local autox's almost every weekend of the month
4) we have an emerging rallyX events that is gaining in popularity every month.
5) we have growing enthusium for Rally events (there was one last weekend)
why street race at all with all these opportunities to do it legally? what's the point of risking your drivers license and car for a stupid exibition of speed on the public roads?

I couldn't resist:
outferno, would you want your house to be on a street that is part of a "street racing zone"?
I wonder how you would explore the issue of liability in a "street racing zone".
I think we should have public raceways and circuits.
In Germany, they have the ultra-long Nurburgring (The "old" Nurburgring), which was an old racetrack. Now its open to the public, at your own risk!
This is different than stupid track days, where you have to pay more, and its too formal for some. At the 'Ring, you pay about $10-15 to enter, and you're in.
