I'm in the market for a gun too. I'd prefer a G21, but with the added cost of ammo, I think I could put twice as many bullets downrange with a 9mm.
A G19 might be nice if I decide to get a CCW. I'm going to try it next time I go to Reeds.

should i wait untill the gun show at the cow palace or purchase from a local dealer? which wud be cheaper?
Is it cheaper to shoot at Reed's bcuz i usually rent at Jackson and it's kinda pricey? And where is Reed's?
as of right now the xp-40 4 or 5in, hk usp .40, g-22 are the top runners

well... I have a hookup at Jackson.. but yeah, they are pricey. Oh, and if you want to try for a CCW, you better not live in the San Francisco city limits... they are notoriously bad about awarding them.. last year (or was it the year before), they only issued 7... and two of them went to Boxer and Feinstein.. two of the biggest anti-gun nuts on Capitol Hill.. oh the irony!
but yeah, the FN is legal now, just a pretty penny. It's a DEAD SEXY gun. +1 on the XD-40. Between the ported V10 XD in a .40 and the glock 23C, it's a tough choice.

If it's not for save-your-life personal defense, I'd go for the Desert Eagle .50ae. By far themost fun pistol I have ever fired, but unreliable as all hell. Jammed at least once per magazine.

i'll be sure by the time i go to Reeds this Friday to fire the p226 9mm(no .40 but figure 9mm and .40 are almost identical) and the HK usp .40.
Is http://www.onpointfirearms.com/home.htm(Great pices btw) cheaper or shud i pay admission at the gun show? bcuz wudnt it be about the same price after all the transfer fees no matter where i buy it?
not really identical.
granted, i shoot better with my 229/.40 than my 226/9. the 226 has a slightly longer barrel.
but i picked up the 40 with no problems.
now, jumping from .40 to a .45, that was a diff issue.
forget gun shows. well at least in kalifornia.
my last 3 gun purchases was made from the internet and had an FFL (federal firearms license dealer) do the transfer.
i scope out www.gunsamerica.com
try this: http://www.gunsamerica.com/2380/2380-random-1.htm
found a 229/40 a few years ago for $599. traders was asking over $700. so then add tax and DROS, i saved by buying from NY.
CDNN sometimes has police trade-in SIGs really cheap.
check out their PDF cat at www.cdnninvestments.com
and finally, for my i-club needs for SIGs, you cant beat www.sigforum.com
one final thing, a .40 sig can be retrofitted to fire a .357 SIG ammo by just exchanging the barrel. a barrel is like $150 or so.
so you kinda get 2 guns in 1. warning though, a .357 SIG (care, this aint a .357 special or magnum round -- it's completely diff) is a rare ammo and a costly one. well not really rare. but some stores may not stock that ammo readily. the magazines are even labelled ".40/.357" so it's kinda cool. my 229/40 is like that.
i fired a .357 SIG 229 before. wow, that round has kick. lots o' noise. and some departments like that round for penetration, like through windshields.
oh one more thing: SIGs come in a couple flavor. DOUBLE ACTION (which means when you pull the trigger, the hammer is also cocked) and SINGLE ACTION. or then can come DOUBLE ACTION ONLY.
a DA/SA trigger, when in SA mode has less travel. but some police depts dont like that since you have to "learn" DA, which mean you pull the trigger longer and after the first shot, it goes into SA.
SIG recently introduced a DAK trigger. DA only and a SMOOOOOOOTHER trigger pull from what i hear. HAYWARD PD recently went from a DA/SA 226 in 9mm to a DAK 226 in 40. cant wait to shoot a DAK.
oops... more crap to add. you have to take a 30-40 question (IIRC) test to get a card JUST TO BUY a firearm in kalifornia. and the firearm you want, better be in the CA DOJ list of approved handguns. and you better act fast since 2006 will introduce MORe AND MORE wackier anti-gun laws...
