Dude...44 magnum... has that 'oh shoot' look about it and simple to maintain.
If you're going to shoot a lot, make sure you check out the cost of ammo.

the thing is i dont want to spend more than $700(tight budget), the gun is going
to used for target practice and personal defense, and i like a heaver full size like
the kimber 1911 but i'd feel more comfortable with a mag that held atleast 10+1.
I love the .45 and .40 is a good compermise between .45 and weakass 9mm, but
i havnt had any experience wiht a 10mm. glock 22 is a good gun, but i was more
acurate wiht a kimber 1911. anyone have experience with a CZ? or anyother
suggestions?

okay.. .40SW is basically a 10mm with the cartridge shortened
. The 10mm has a bit more recoil than the .45 (more powder).
My fave round right now is the .40. If you are concerned about recoil, look at the GLOCK 23C (compensated). VERY nice. I fired one at a gunshop with its own range in Texas, and it honestly felt like I was firing a 9mm, the recoil was so light. I did a rapid-fire test at 25m with the thing, and had a 4 inch shotgroup. GOOD LORD that thing was sweet.
Here's a list of compensated glocks ( http://www.glock.com/compensator.htm ?), if you want to see them in other trims. The 23C is my choice for a tactical sidearm.
You could also try an FN Five seveN, with its 5.57mm round
, but those things sell at a premium.

I have an XD-40, as well as some glocks... I've fired an ***-tonne of pistols, and my fav thus far is the the G21... the 22 is pretty bad *** too.
The XD-40 is like the pistol from the future. It is amazing... Reliable as a glock, more safety features, and accurate as hell. I've fired hundreds of rounds through it without cleaning it, and it still fires flawlessly. The loaded chamber indicator kicks ***, as does the cocking indicator.
I'm a glock fanatic, but I like the XD just as much. I'm sure your hands aren't as big as mine... so I HIGHLY recommend the XD. You will not regret it. If I had to bring one pistol with me into combat (that wasn't the G21), it'd be the XD.
Best part of all, its cheap.

+1 For Glock 20 in 10mm
Use to be an FBI specail. Youd be amazed at the damage it can do for a small caliber hand gun. Plus its super light and not too bad on price.

reed shooting range is your best friend. i would rental a gun that you really like and give it a try.
make sure you better get one before the year ends or you will reget.
btw, i am in the market too in getting one last gun before Jan 06, it would be either an Sig 228, HK P7M8, Sig GSR, or a Kimber TLE II.
MIAMI
p.s. there is an upcoming gunshow at Cow Palaces in San Francisco, May 22-23

I shot an XD9 and a Glock 34 at Reed's last week. Fantastic guns, both of them. I was able to put together some nice groupings. I don't care what anyone says, I like the Glock trigger!
I'm in the market for a gun too. I'd prefer a G21, but with the added cost of ammo, I think I could put twice as many bullets downrange with a 9mm.
A G19 might be nice if I decide to get a CCW. I'm going to try it next time I go to Reeds.
