That SOB. The car only has 80k miles on it too.

Not to bash that car at all, but '84 GNs are much more about collectability than speed. The '84s were non intercooled, and only ran 7+ sec. 0-60s. Don't get me wrong, I love all GNs, but if you want to ride in the GN that most are referring to regarding a fast car, you want to stick with the 86 and 87 models. That year they converted to SFI (sequential port fuel injection) a much larger Garrett turbo, totally different heads, different internals, and an intercooler. The pre 86s, and the 86/87 models are really entirely different beasts.

Try telling that to the boys at Sac raceway, Sears Point, and Burbank. Every time I ran my cars all of the V8 guys who didn't know their shiznit laughed at us (mostly the F body cameros/TAs, and fox body mustangs) primarily because GNs are relativley quiet. They changed their tune after our first run though.

I know '84 GN's aren't intercooled, I know that the post '86s are better, but nobody likes an internet know-it-all.

Zing! Down tiger! I said I wasn't bashing it, geez. I was just saying they aren't known specifically for their speed. I would LOVE an '84 considering thier rarity, but there are never really any out there for sale. I guess all the current owners know how lucky they are. Is his one of the two-tone models? Man I love those. Anywho, wasn't trying to be a know-it-all, just like talking about Grand Nationals.

It's alright, sorry about that, I shouldn't be allowed to post when I'm hungry and cranky. It's not two tone...you can see it through the window if you're ever walking down Van Ness, it's not terribly special aside from the fact that it's a GN and I'd take it off his hands in a second. My friend and I broke into the showroom so we could go look at it because I wanted to see what year it was. We popped the hood and climbed inside and inspected everything...there's a can of black spraypaint sitting in the passenger side footwell. That showroom is full of beautiful, mint condition classic cars, then hidden away in the back is this poor, neglected GN with rock chips and a dirty interior. Sad. We should go liberate it.

It's not necessarily a bad thing that the car is sitting in there like that... I mean, sure it may have some rockk chips and a dirty interior, that happens. But I think you said it only has like 80k miles right, so at least it's in a climate controlled room and not getting driven. That car will be one of those 'wonder finds' in 10-15 years, like a modern equivilent of all those rare mustangs you hear about being found in a barn somewhere. I'll have to head down to Vann Ness the next time I'm in the city and check it out.

You have a good point, but every time I saw that car, I would think "my tuition is going to buy the owner of this school more cars that could just as easily be mine. That car would look much better in my garage." I'm just jealous, that's all.

bassplayrr, thanks for posting those nice pics. GNs are nice cars to own and drive. Was never able to afford one of the good ones or a GMC Syclone when they were new, though.

Here are some pics my friend took of his car.

Man alive, your buddy has a nice car! I love GNXs. Even though I'd never want one since I would feel bad for modifying such a rare car, you can't have anything but respect for people lucky enought to own one. It must feel pretty damn good to know you own one of only 500 cars made.
