How do you figure? And how much would it cost to build a PC good enough to run Halo 3 at the same quality of an Xbox.
You're really reaching here. There are plenty of people that prefer consoles over playing PC games. Neither format will replace the other. The Wii came out 11 months ago and you still can't walk into Best Buy and grab one.

+1 for this thread
yes, the consoles still have alot of life left in them, but the more expensive they get, and the more people (like me) start integrating their PCs with theyre home entertainment setups (Half-life 2 on 50" lcd FTW!
) the less practical its going to become for people to pay an extra $400, $500, $600 for an additional gaming device with less power and functionality than the PC they have sitting right there. Thats just evolution

its like racing cars, a field of modified ones get boring, so they bring in spec miatas all with the same stats etc
we are...or were talking about time in relation to waitng for Halo3 which is months, not 30 seconds to respond to a thread!
dont get all defensive because people are disagreeing with you.

your point about building a PC that matched modern gen consoles would be valid if you assumed we didnt already have a PC to begin with, then we could assume the choice would be to own only a console or only a PC based solely on the cost factor in playing video games, but the fact is we are already all going to own a PC either way for all the other functionality, and since the processing power, memory, and upgradability of a PC trump the console as well the rationale for investing several hundreds more for a console with less functionality, power, memory etc simply because you have not yet integrated your PC with your TV yet becomes less and less practical.

Plus consoles will always be popular with the little kiddies. Do you really want a 6 year old all up on your expensive computer playing Pokemon when you've got work to do or forums to post in? There's lots of factors that go into it.

I can play Half-Life 2 on a big screen with my console. Am I missing something?
