Pay for return shipping?
Pay for return shipping?
I got a question for you guys. I sold a rearview mirror on nasioc awhile back. The little box popped off when I removed the mirror. It came off easy and I popped it back on no problem. I didnt think it was a big deal. The guy gets the mirror and says it rattles and won't calibrate so he ships at back at his expense. I take a look at it, pop the box on so it doesn't rattle anymore and it calibrated perfect on the very first try. Now he either wants his money back or for me to pay to ship it back to him since I did not disclose the box had come off. It took me not even 5 minutes to fix the rattle. I think he should have to pay to have the mirror sent back since there is nothing wrong with it. At this point it is over more than just the money. Who do you think should pay to have it shipped to him again?

Did you ask him to ship it back or did he just ship it back? While I think you should have disclosed any damage to the mirror, even with how small and negligible you think it is, that's the risk of buying stuff before seeing it, and it should be his loss.

Did you say all sales final? Did you tell him to ship it back to you?
I mean if you sold it and didn't offer to have him send it back and either fix it or return his money then it's his deal. Shipping shouldn't be much so I'd just send it back to him and say... it works fine. Sold as is. etc.
That's the nice way to go about it and the most likely way to just keep moving forward. SOme people can drag stuff like this on forever so it's better to just get it over with and move on.

he emailed me with the problems. i told him to ship it back so i could test it out since it worked perfect when i shipped it. he agreed that that was fair and i would refund his money when i could duplicate the problem. since i couldntthis is where it stands now

My two cents...if he paid for shipping in the price of the part, and sent it back at your request, then you have one of two options.
1. refund his payment, (what ever you charged him minus shipping) and keep the part. Send a brief apology, and what not along with it.
2. you can pay the money and ship it back, but you do run the risk of it still not being right in his mind.
Personally I would go with option one, and next time you list it, make sure to disclose what the problem with it was, how you fixed it, and why you are relisting it for sale. You don't want bad mouthing going on when you try to resell it. Honesty is the key, tell the guy that bought it in the firstplace, and tell any future buyer, just to cover your butt.

Since you OKed the shipping back and did not disclose the issue in the first place, it is your responsibility as a sub-par seller to pay for the shipping.
You're also going on my "do not buy from" list
