A parking story: Land Rovers suck!!
reminds me of a few weeks ago wt my own work,
i was using the company dodge caravan, and backing out of the loading dock, and i gently tapped a co-worker's red 03 mustang at less than 5 mph, she parked illegally right behind me, and when i first checked out the situation, the way she parked her car at 10:00 at night it looked like i had enough room. i checked behind me, and the car ends up being in my blind spot (short asian guy driving a passenger van = more blind spots than intended) so i gave her a small dent that side of a door ding on the driver's side rear panel.
she ended up going to a dealership to get the estimate and the car worked on, it was 1,000 something for everything, saying it needs a new bumper piece, oem from ford, which in turn means that the piece had to be shipped in, and the associated labor. then they checked the wheel alignment and said that they need a new axle cuz it was bent during the "accident." and that adds another grand for that. dude, that's complete bs.
the woman is the type that guards her pretty ol' mustang gt with her life. as a security guard, she parks in the patient parking area, and continually tells people to move their cars away from where she parked her car cuz its a "compact car parking are only." my ***, even the mustang isn't considered a compact car so she shouldn't even be parking there with that point of view. man, she also owns an early 90s thunderbird, bring THAT to work if you're so freakin paranoid about your car.
so far, the management hasn't done anything about the accident, which is their way of defending me. the problem is that her insurance company wants to sue Kaiser for the damages. on Kaiser's side, the woman has a history of post abandoment, poor customer service skills, and all around typical slacker who pisses off her co-workers.
oh i love work-time drama

Sorry, dan
Like I said with the original poster, I agree that the range rover driver was a bit shady in claiming the broken fog light (if in fact there was no glass on the ground and stuff), however he did have every right to be pissed.
That's one of the biggest problems these days - dishonest people. I hate them. She'll get hers though - specially if her ins co. tries to sue Kaiser. I'm not sure on what grounds they could sue (was she in her car at the time of the accident?) as long as Kaiser or your ins. co took care of the damages.
If you do get sued, I do have a little faith in the courts. My gf got sued about 2 years ago from an accident she had been in nearly a year prior to that. She had tapped a woman at about 3mph at a stop light - the light turned green, my gf released the clutch and tapped the car ahead of her. The car was a previous salvage and literally fell apart on impact, so the woman claimed $5k in injury that AAA denied (and laughed at her about I'm sure). We went to court and she tried to exaggerate the impact and her injuries, but the judge had none of it and we won the case.
Heh, also, if she does allow her ins. co to sue Kaiser for the accident, it may be a VERY career limiting move

No matter what you hit his car w/ a TRUCK.
Now if you would have done that to my rex and tryed to lock it up and walk away well I would be in county waiting to see the judge.
Bumpers aren't expected to touch and a truck would really damage a suby. So from now on be careful when you park dont take it so lightly some people (me) are very **** about the cars they drive.
Now if you would just be sorry about it and admit you f'd up and hand over insurance papers its all good

If you ask a cop to come (like i did). There was a stupid truck park on a fire hydrant zone and literally makes contact with my sis bumper. It made deep marks... the cop didn't do a damn thing, not even a ticket

Dang lots of responses to make
There was no visible damage on either vehicle on close inspection, no glass on the ground
How could a truck make more damage than a car? it's just a 1/2 ton, known as a "mini" in the truck world. his truck was bigger than mine
bumpers touch, it just happens. i'm not sure how one can fit in a small parking space without bumpers....thats why they're called bumpers. as long as you're careful not to bump too hard or rub the ends of the bumper...
I should have said "sorry I hit your bumper but didn't break the light" but I had a feeling this guy was going to call his lawyer before he called the police, so i decided to deny everything until the cops show up.

danhtao's story above reinforces: deny everything until the cops show up then tell them whats up. if i had said i hit his bumper he would be getting a new fog light right now and i would be paying hundreds of dollars for it and my insurance would be bumped up for something i didn't do.

I call this the parking-by-touch (n00b) method. It is not acceptable. If I have to use someone else's bumper as an indicator of how far to back up or pull forward, then the space is too small to begin with. That means I won't leave them enough room to pull out without them hitting my bumper on the way out. Forget that.

Jeez. Parking-by-Braille is NOT cool.
/+Laurence/ I do believe you'd get your *** kicked for doing that. /-Laurence/
Bumpers are not there to keep you from having to learn how to drive.
Yeah, the guy with the landrover was an *** (busted light with no glass on the ground? Its easy to do the math) But you shouldn't have bumped him in the first place. He had every right to be pissed off.

Someone once smacked into my car while parking in the meter in front of mine while I was waiting in my car. I pulled my tools I had just used on my freinds suspension install out of the trunk, jacked their car up, took the rear wheels off and set them on them flat ground under the car. Sure it cost me 2 jack stands and the risk of jail time.... but it was so worth it. Looking back it was really stupid, but really funny.
My Subaru has been hit 4 times now. The passenger side door is severely scraped, the top of the hood and even the windshield took damage from the last idiot that backed into it. Unfortunately, none of them left insurance info. The only reason I don't get all the damage fixed is because I know some tosser will do the same again anyway. The only reason for this rant is that the last impact must have been a truck or SUV to get high enough to even scrape my windshield.
