It a lot more humane then shooting them with a BB gun where you have to hit them 3 or 4 times before they die. Remember squirrels are rodents but if they don't bother you, leave them alone.

anyone who complained about this doesn't have groundhog problems..

Groundhogs can cause 100K of damage in a week.
Major pest.
Hard to do anything to them but kill em all...
We tried getting owls to eat em nope...
very hard animal to control.
Imagine if you will animals that bore through WRX's and the only way to stop them is to shoot them.

I think what we have here is a perspective problem. All these people that complain are most likely the result of growing up in a city/urban enviorment. When you are in the country setting there are alot of things that seem to be cruel that just need to happen. Population controll unfortunatly goes into many other species as well. The deer population in Northern california is another population that has to be controlled buy hunters. Becuase there are so few predeters these days, we have to take the old gun out now and then to make the population healthy. It sounds wierd but it is the best for the species. The prairy dog is a rodent! they multiply bu the minute, and if not controlled, they distroy grazeing land and what not. And man they blow up like they got TNT in their bellies don't they

Killing to control a pest, has to be done sometimes. I can understand that, but getting pleasure and enjoyment out of seeing something killed (not to mention brutally) is just plain sick. I think the issue here is not necessarily why it was done, just why do some people think its cool and enjoyable.

There are quite a few non-violent ways to end a groundhog problem.. I'd know, my uncle has a farm with them.

And talk about getting turned inside out, that's freaking ridiculous.
