Out of state vehicle?

Out of state vehicle?
Has anyone here ever purchased an out of state vehicle? I am considering purchasing a truck that was previously registered in another state. The truck is here in California now and has passed our Cal SMOG check.
I did find some information on our DMV site:

I'm a little concerned because I would not be familiar with what the out of state title would look like. I would pay cash for this truck and run a CarFax report first (I know the CarFax doesn't catch everything though). Any thoughts?
