older newbie
Thanks Yin
Didn't know about the aft weight difference and balance- makes sense.
Also I measured a 2005 wagon back at the dealership and it was just over 36" wide which is one of the standard canvas sizes for paintings so I figured that would work good for me if I need to haul my paintings around.
I'm outa town this Thursday, but maybe after that I could go to Novato to the meet. I should bring my GTX to stick out! Could put a WRX in the trunk and go for a ride!
Anyway - free till 4 PM today if anyone is bored and wants to teach some things and show off their car to an old guy!

it should also be pointed out that the back seat of the sedan does not fold down! which is just preposterous in my opinion. so if you were going to carry around a big canvas, the sedan would be an issue.

plus, you can negotiate a small wing with the deal.
Hiya Glen (?) Insurance not a problem. Would not buy a one new. At least right now, I have no desire to track.
You make good points. I have a pretty good idea how much better the STi is, but I can't resolve the idea that doing the things it can do on the street is just either dangerous or stupid; so my claim about the 2% - at least for me anyway.
A wagon version would be ridiculous for most, but a slam dunk for me.
I guess if I could get a good deal on a 2004 or 2005 STi I might bite, but otherwise I think I'll stick with my plan. Thanks for the feedback.

wagon sounds like a good bet to me. I haul my mom's paintings all the time and the 36" ones stack perfectly in the back with the seat folded, even under the rear strut bar I have and I can slide larger ones in between the front and rear seats or on top as well. Trucks needed for the 6 to 8ft ones though, wagon can't do that much. I've never regretted buying a wagon and I've never been hassled by anyone, cops or ricers trying to race, despite some exterior mods.

Hey, i'm an older engineer too, but my car rocks
Sorry I don't really live close enough to help, but go to some of the meets or the fun runs, it's a blast.

Where can I get more info on the Mt. Hamilton meet?
Checked out LIC in Novato and I will try to make it there soon.
Also do real estate with my wife and my mother and we just had a hick-up on a deal so I may have to wait a little longer to purchase (8 weeks instead of 4), but I plan on studying and checking out as any cars as I can in the meantime.

I'd like to meet a local WRX owner who wouldn't mind giving me a ride and teaching me a few things about these cars.
