Perform test, gather data.
Grab one of the lines coming out of the sandwich plate and loop it back into the other port on the sandwich plate.
Perform Test, gather data.
Chart temp over time and compare the two lines to measure success.
You should keep a spare section of properly sized hose for this purpose if your currently installed hoses don't fit well. A wrench/socket to remove the sandwich plate and install the filter directly on the block also works in case of emergency.

Something like this would have been best performed pre install for pre oil cooler results to compare to post oil cooler results. Yes you can/could go and disconnect and loop your sandwich adapter and loop your cooler but really who is going to go through all of that after they have the cooler installed and working properly? If you are willing to disconnect your oil cooler, log temps and then reconnect to get temps for comparison, Let us know how that works out for you. LOL

If it's too hard for your delicate hands to move a couple of hose fittings and write down some numbers that is your problem.
I installed my temp probe before I installed an oil cooler because I think it is a waste of time installing coolers if you don't how/why/when or even IF you're overheating anything.

You asked what to compare to.
