oil change from subaru dealer

hey i bought my impreza in oregon and i turned down the lifetime free oil change upgrade because it was good only at that dealership and when i bought the car i knew i was moving back to the bay. i have 5,000 miles on it now. will a subaru dealership around here still give that option? i tried to call stevens creek subaru and they were not that nice.

Honestly? Do it yourself, man.

It'll cost you half of what even the cheapest service place will charge you.

Check the intArweb.net for instructions if you're unsure. The first time will be messy, but it's very well worth the time (and mess).

doing it yourself is the way to go......but half?

Dealership charges $40. jiffy places are like $28.

when I do it myself. Filter/crush washer is what $8 or so. Oil is like $24...I use mobil 1 synth...if you're using cheap oil you might as well have someone else do it.

So it cost me about $32 to do it myself. Toss in a couple beers and it's what the dealership charges..

I am really lazy so I would totally pay a guy 30 bucks if he were to come and change my oil, but the fact is it takes like 40 minutes out of my life to drive to a place, change oil, and drive back.

So I mean.... I can take 40 minutes out of my time or 20 minutes in my garage, so yeah....

Alright, let me tally up what it cost me to do the Civic (STI has free oil changes @SC Subaru)

Filter + Crush washer: $7
6 Quarter of Mobil 1 Synth from Costco: $31 (Honda takes 3.5 quarts, so I only use $20 of oil)

So yeah, I'm with you with ~30 bucks. When I didn't have a garage or tools, I'd pay 60 for a full synthetic oil change. This was in Texas, though.

Will local places really charge less than 30 for a full synthetic change + disposal?

You could simply get a Fumoto valve, and not have to worry about crush washers again.

*** WINNER ***

It's a deal you can't beat. It won't last forever, so use it while you can.

I bought my car from Subaru of Santa Cruz and they gave me 60,000 miles of free oil changes. I must say I miss having a need to go to Santa Cruz.

After 60K I bought a fumoto valve, OEM filters and mobile 1 by the case.

I wouldn't trust myself with a wrench around my car. LOL. I've done oil changes on my RS and it was easy as hell. "Even a caveman can do it."™

if you do it yourself keep the reciepts and keep track of the mileage and what oil you used.
