Oh, oh! SNOW!
just thought I'd throw this out there:
www.heavenlypass.com
I prefer southlake and it's like $299 for the season..can't beat that.
I know it's busy on the weekends and there are a ton of noobs, but if you stay on the nevada side and and go through the trees you never see 'em.
I have to agree with onemanarmy and Daredevil regarding Boreal and Flatstar.
I think kirkwood is having a deal on their season pass as well....
Happy trails to all....

The whole time I was there I was thinking that I must get to Jackson Hole in the winter. From what I saw, it looked very fast and fun.

I am down to hit jackson hole...I've been thinking of a place to travel to this year. I was thinking BC cause I have someplace to stay there but jacksonhole is sick too.
Have to figure out travel plans and a place to crash....bring a riding buddy with me...probably my brother. How's February?

i can't help with places to stay
but i can give you free boarding passes
like i said, any time but january, ill be in the alps
last year i drove out from the north bay, took me 15 hours to drive, so its not that horrible and much cheaper than flying

How about a meet in Whistler? How about Vail, the Heavenly pass gets you 5 days in Vail.
I was also contemplating the Heavenly pass. Anyone else getting it?

question about chains
i didnt wanna start a new thread so i thought i would ask here. i still got the stock re92 and i was wondering how often does everyone on here have to put on chains when they go up to tahoe. i know on reall bad conditions, they require everone except for awd/4wd w/ snow tires. i will be going up there a couple of time and i was wondering how often am i gonna use tire chains. sorry for the newbie question but i already searched and couldnt come up with anything. thanks

Rarely. When the roads in tahoe are bad they close them so you can't drive them anyways. I always get waved through the checkpoints when they see I have a Subaru
The re92's aren't that great in snow though. I have a set of winter tires I put on now, but I did use them for 2 seasons.

As someone who has lived in Michigan and Illinois near Chicago -- the roads up there are usually pretty good. I guess you should have chains along, but I've never needed chains in the Sierras, I think if it ever gets bad enough that you would need chains on an AWD vehicle, they close the roads.
Edit: I'll be on a business trip to Chicago later this week, and I'm stuck with a rental Grand Am, please God no snow! I'd rather be in a Neon . . .

you are required to carry chains tho. Probably never be an issue but it gives peace of mind. Particualry if you go off the beaten track.
I got Shur Grip Zs (stock # SZ 331) from Napa last year for about $60. It was a waste 'cause I end up never going up there last year.
If you are on a budget you can rent 'em but if you go up a few times then your better off buying them.
