Let's see 2->1 redlined on wet pavement, yeah all that extra torque is gonna help a bunch...
Rear end skid, correct, and skid the other way is about the most believable part - classic overcorrecting, and in a new car you don't know is highly likely.
It certainly is possible to roll a car at very low speeds, but you really have to either know how, or do something just plain wrong, like hit the brake instead of the gas, turn out of skid instead of into it, or be braking with the wheels turned hard and hit a cliff face or wall.

Ya, got it saturday night. Was coming back from a buddys house last night that lives up in a canyon.... we had been clearing my headlights - you can see in the pics. It was about 1030 last night and I asked him about deer and he said ya be careful cause it had just rained so the deer were out. So, only having a stick car for 2 days and somethign with more horsepower than my truck, I was being really careful. Came around a corner low 2nd gear about 23 mph and saw 3 deer in the road. Redlined a 2-1 shift and nailed the 13" brembo brakes as i hit the apex of the turn.... rear end came out a little bit so i countersteered (oh wait, you cant in an AWD car LOL) and got my rear end straight and it went out the other way. Kind of ramped me up the uphill side of the road and got on my drivers side sliding for about 20 feet before completing the rotation to the roof, which i slid for 65 feet and then rotated 180º before stopping. Hanging upside down in the car with 50 cent still going and all i could do was yell **** as loud as I could. LOL. Oh well... thats what insurance is for. Got a check for $30k today, and bought it back for $6k. Engine and tranny and supercharger is all perfect condition, already have a buyer. Interior (seats, steering wheel, dash, cluster, computers, etc) is all perfect. Ill end up making around $5k on selling stuff, but I REALLY want to make an AWD 4 seater sandrail....that would be really amazing. Ill get some more pics up of the car and of the area i took today in the daytime. I got a concussion and cut my ear and arms up front glass but other than that Im fine.

if he was really going 23mph or 35mph, and slammed on the brakes as he said, he could've stopped. the deers were probably 30 feet infront of him when he turned the corner. he slid a total of 90 feet. you can slid 90 going 35mph, but he SLAMMED on the brakes.
my favorite part of his story is when he says he counter steered and the rear end straightened out, but wait it then does something magical and goes the other direction.

.... 23 mph ... doesn't matter if you down shift from 2 to 1 ... 23 mph?? that's not ***in possible. and the deer story, i dont buy it.... ***ing idiot. i think he needs to stick to a monthly bus pass. he might distract the taxi driver and flip the taxi ><

The 6spd in the STI is very tight going into first gear. I can't even shift into first unless I'm almost stopped when it's cold...and it needs to be under 10mph when warm or it feels like I could push hard enough on the shifter to bend the linkage and it still wouldn't go into gear. People have said before that changing the tranny fluid could help this...but I've also read a lot of issues with shifting after a fluid change, so I'll keep this issue and peace of mind about warranty.
The STI is my fist stick shift car also. I don't really see that as a problem...since I love my car and I don't drive like an idiot. I'm glad this guy chose to drive like that where he couldn't hurt anyone else, maybe he'll think about what he's doing next time...and maybe someone else will learn from his example before they hurt themselves...or someone else. Like my roomates in Chico used to say when they'd drive home drunk and I was mad at them: "Dude, I'm fine..." to which I'd reply "I wasn't worried about you asswad."

no joke. I countersteer the **** out of my car. Ask Justin..haaa. he's seen me recover from nearly backwards...twice. haaaa.
Guy is a retard. What happened is he was going way to fast for his skills and probably had messed around with the DCCD. Came around a corner freaking. Slammed the breaks and spun up a hill and flipped. wouldn't be the first person new to an AWD car that spun like that. And seems as how he doesn't really know how to drive a stick that adds to it.
I can't believe the cars some folks climb into.
I've seen 1WRX2NV counter steer from left to right to left to.... more left to straight. All through 1 turn that started out at around 70 plus mph and end up and around 3-4mph and he didn't hit a thing..... and he came out of it facing the correct direction in the correct lane...
I know I was in the frickin car.
For more detail you can ask Freddie.

i know this guy. all im going to say is the road he was on is a tough road. it would have been easy to drop a tire off the pavement and get loose and have all kinds of things go wrong from there. i dont know where on the road he was but some parts of that road are sketchy at 35mph in dry weather.. it was wet when he did it.
im not going to try to defend him any more than what i said above because i know it wont work. i just think its pretty lame when people automatically think the guy is lying, and that there is no way this happened the way he says it did...
though i agree... sometimes there is no way the story is true (ie.panache) haha
