oh man...some people shouldn't own STI's
Yes some people shouldnt have a sti. But it is a statis thing now and days to have a sti. There are only a handfull(big handfull in thebay area but still) of people that are ready for a sti to use it at its full potential and know how to save a incident like that. But its a car and some people just buy it to drive from here to there. Im sure that does not apply to almost everyone here though.
I think the guy is totally full of ish with his story.....
He said he was cruising in 2nd at 35mph (not really "cruising" for 2nd at all)...that's cruising speed for 4th.
Then he said he redlined a 2-1 shift....ANYONE who's ever driven an STI knows that you can't put the damn thing into 1st anywhere near even 10mph...you almost need to be stopped to go into first gear.

BULL****!
As others said, you can't shift from 2-1 while moving at any speed really.
Also, I bet doing it at 35 is possible if you are trying to, but I doubt he was really going that slow.... and he'd have to be in 3rd gear to do 35 without getting close to pinning it.

I dont know about the STi but I would assume it would be simular,in my WRX a 2>1 down shift is possible @ 35, you just have to rev the engine real high (5500-7000 RPMs?) and it will pop into 1st easily... just have to have the car at the right RPM range

Many more details here

along with different info (gonna lie, get your damn story straight beforehand)
Let's see 2->1 redlined on wet pavement, yeah all that extra torque is gonna help a bunch...
Rear end skid, correct, and skid the other way is about the most believable part - classic overcorrecting, and in a new car you don't know is highly likely.
It certainly is possible to roll a car at very low speeds, but you really have to either know how, or do something just plain wrong, like hit the brake instead of the gas, turn out of skid instead of into it, or be braking with the wheels turned hard and hit a cliff face or wall.
