In Oregon, it is illegal to pump your own fuel. To protect jobs or something like that.

trust me, having lived in Oregon for a year its a pain in the rear to have someone else pump gas for you. it takes longer to get gas, and you have to deal with the morons who pump it.

@ the 76 by my house they offer free full service, I always get out of my car and start pumping gas myself before they get to it, if they are faster then me I just say "its alright, I got it!" especially with our cheap *** cars that dont even have a place to put the fuel filler cap

A good portion of what Californians pay at the pump are State taxes. A lone gas station owner would be out of business if all they sold was gasoline. They either must have a service garage or a micro or mini-mart. The gasoline is just the draw to get people into the station. The owner of a single gas station is not going to be raking in six figures a year after paying out for the lease of the property, the employees, and workers comp.

It's like a movie theater. At $8.00 to $10.00 for a non-matinee ticket, it seems to us that they are making a killing. It's the concession sales that keep them afloat.

several points.

wingless is absolutely correct. I used to work at a privately "franchised" chevron station. Mission blvd if anyone remembers it...RIP. Old guy that owned it was always *****ing about how he made like 7 cents a gallon.

Dropkick_ I take offense to that MORON statement. I used to work at a gas station that had a full service station. I was pumping gas and washing window. But then again I also worked in the shop fixing tires/no plugs and doing crap like that. But..>BUT I also laugh because we had a guy at the station....TRUE STORY>

Dude is out there pumping gas in full service. Older lady. I'm in the back cleaning the shop. I look out there he waves at me with his stupid smile. Next thing I know this lady is screaming I come running out to see the gas nossle on the ground firing supreme gas at this lady's car full speed. He's just standing there pacing....I run up..WHAT THE **** ARE YOU DOING> he says...what do I do. I just grabbed the hose and said...First shut the damn thing off. I had to apoligize to the lady. Pay for here fill up. Clean her car. And evacuate the gas station and shut it down for the rest of the night pretty much. So much fumes I seriously thought I was gonna die. I think I dropped about 15 IQ points just being in his presense.

mmbooost.....I have been told I'm a hottie. But I don't think you want me pumping your.......gas. But I will say that I did have a few "regulars" they'd only come in when I was working. Crazy woman fantasies. Young greasy kid at the gas station porno dreams or something. Couple hot chicks and another true story.... Back in the shop you made a left. hall way. There was our sink and changing areas. I was washing up back there and this girl that used to drive by and flirt with me and this one guy all the time....pins me up against the sink. Crazy biatch snuck back there and tried to make one of those fantasies a reality.

as for me...I'll pump my own gas and wash my own windows. Thank you.

the moron comment wasn't aimed at every single gas station attendant in Oregon OneManArmy. i simply had the misfortune of dealing with lots of them that were less than courteous and intelligent. there are some that are quite good, and quite a few that leave a lot to be desired.

yeah i couldn't handle them pumping my gas when i went there. I got into a pissing contest with the guy until he told me it was the law.

I wouldn't want that here in CA. They should clean the windows, fill the windshield fluid and clean your wheels/tires on request though...even check the tire presure. I'd take advantage of that.

Supervise the little punk while you put the pump on auto pilot. Make sure he doesn't scratch anything or steal your caps.

It would be like a "service war" to gain your business out of good faith.
