Official: SF Giants 2015 Season Thread!
I don't know where you guys are getting the numbers from, but from what I've read, the Giants matched Boston's offer in the end for 5 years $95m. Other reports coming out today indicated that the Giants actually offered more than what Boston offered, plus a 6 year deal.
Plus, the early "lowball" offer of $40m wasn't a bad deal, considering how badly he played in the first half of the season.

Damn. Yasmany Tomas signs with the D-Backs...one less offensive option for us.
Let's see how the remainder of the Hot Stove season goes. Will we go back to the recipe of horrendous (stat-wise) hitting and stellar pitching (e.g. Lay out $$$$ for a stud FA pitcher) or will we try going with balance of strong pitching and decent overall hitting (but sacrifice some defense).
Does Melky have a chance again in an SF uniform??!?
So many possibilities...

Supposedly Chase headly is in lead for third base replacement
If we're going with Headley, then we will need moar pitching...
And....no Lester for us.
At least the Dodgers didn't get him. Sounds like he wanted to stay in the Midwest.
Silver lining: guaranteed that Zito part Deux won't happen...
But we still have a need for a solid #2 pitcher, with holes at 3B and LF, and we didnt spend that $150M, so...who knows???
Glad we raised the price for those Chicago teams tho! Talk about no win situation.

I'm kind of glad they didn't get caught up in that mess. Too long of a contract IMHO. I'm sure Sabes is doing work right now. Patience it will take. Kind of like the patience that was required the middle of this past season.

Giants just resigned Peavy for 2 years at $24 Million

Giants trade 2 minor league pitching prospects to the Marlins for Casey McGehee. He'll fill in as our 3B. Underwhelming to say the least. Hit 4 HRs last year for the Marlins.
Expect another underwhelming signing for LF.

^ He had a decent year last season, but that's about it. Look at the rest of his stats for previous seasons...
He's a low risk bandaid to fill in for Sandoval. Management once again is looking for cheapies and platoons in LF.

Well, McGahee signing not bad as a band-aid, not a long term solution. good that those stats show him to be an On-Base machine.
Wonder where the brain trust will go next? blow the wad trying to sign Shields (rumored to want 5+ years at $110M+) or try to trade for a LF? but if trade, who do we have left? at least, with $$, it's "just" money, and no prospects lost.
Your move, Sabes...
