I am seriously confused though! It must have been some technicality or new rule. I refuse to believe that the 49ers are THAT dumb.

I think he thought they could run the clock out on that play but he totally forgot that the offensive line has sucked this season. It happens..

 

They went over taking a safety as compared to punting it right then and there just so they waste more time off the clock.

 

But why not kneel instead of the first punt/safety?

 

If they just took a knee at the 1st down (and every after that), there would have been something like 30-35 seconds left on the clock. With the safety, they only gave like 13 seconds left or something? I cant remember the exact times

 

But when they gave up the safety on 4th down there were only 8 seconds left. Why couldn't they have taken one instead of that play?

 

IIRC it was already 4th and long (like 15+ yards).

 

I cant remember it all now, but it did kinda make sense at the time. They just wanted to waste as much of the clock as possible
