Except he illegally defended. Lewis was far enough forward for Nico to have to leave space. As per the rules.
Once Lewis got his front wing alongside Nico's rear tire, Nico has to leave space for Lewis. Lewis got his front tires up to Nico's rear tires before Nico forced him off the track.
Should Lewis have not gone for the gap? He's a racing driver. That's what he's supposed to do.
Something Something... Being a racing driver means you are racing with other people and if you no longer go for a gap that exists you are no longer a racing driver because we are competing, we are competing to win and the main motivation to all of us is to compete for the victory.

Oh that's right, they said it was legal and the resulting crash was racing incident.
Try again...

It all happened so quickly and Hamilton's closing speed was so much greater than Rosberg's. It was a simple mistake by both drivers that happened in the blink of an eye...Lewis thought he had the space, Nico closed the door not realizing how much faster Lewis was and not seeing he was partially alongside.
No malice or dastardly tactics from either driver...just split second bad decision making that was ruled a racing incident..
Sounds from Gagan's post above that Hammy will struggle to challenge Nico for the title if he gets grid penalties...
Maybe this is Nico's season? where all the bad luck hits Lewis...it's worked the other way on previous occasions and that's how it goes in F1

The incident resulted with him being out of the race which is a harsher consequence than any reprimand they would have given him.

All really depends on the guest steward.
Wasn't there something a year ago about some drivers/teams complaining about inequity of the punishments because of who the sitting stewards were...
But I have a feeling it was because of the crash and dnf of each driver and that Mercedes will not push for a formal Reprimand or punishment of its own driver, that there was no further action taken.
If it was merc on red bull or red bull on merc (depending on who you think was at fault Nico or Hami)...you can bet your bottom dollar that the "victim" team would push for a formal punishment.
Also, if the "causing driver" had not DNF'd because of the incident I am sure the stewards would go further as well.
But I'm just a humble tv viewer... Who thinks it was hamiltons fault.

That was an interesting race.
Too bad Hamilton's power was down otherwise could have been fun to watch him try to claw back up the field.
Perez passing Kimi on the last lap (or second to last) was such a punch in the stomach.

Perez is driving well..he might end up in a big team if he continues driving that way for the rest of the season but Force India look to have made a great car this year for him to show off his talents..Hulkenberg too

If that happens, hopefully he will be able to shine and not repeat what happened with McLaren.
I agree that Perez is good. But he needs to also be consistent.
