Official: 49ers 2012-2013 Season Thread!
Yup, the pressure that the front 7 brings game in game out helps w/ our CB shortcomings. Whitner & Goldson (except vs. Julio Jones in the 1st Q. Yes, I mean you, Dashon.) always bring it. Carlos Rogers is solid, which is why he's often lined up against the real weapons in the slot -- i.e. Tony Gonzalez. Brown & Culliver have limitations in their physical size and in their coverage abilities. I'm stoked on their physical play, but talents like White & Jones can torch 'em.
The defensive adjustments they made midway thru the 2nd quarter were HUGE! Game-changing actually. Along w/ the team that wins the turnover battle, I always say that the team who best makes adjustments at the half will win the game. The Niners were fortunate enough to have made their adjustments before heading in for the break.
Thing is that my 2 concerns today will still be my concerns on Super Sunday.
-- Bouldin & Torrey Smith. YIKES!
-- I don't recall who it was, but one of the studio guys on CBS's AFC postgame coverage brought up Akers' status... should the Niners find a replacement? Hmmmmm.....

What would have happened if that kick was just about 5-10 feet farther up as it almost cleared the top of the uprights? I imagine that would have counted as a Field Goal, but that would have been interesting.

All I know is this is the first Super Bowl in a long time I've given two ****s about. I'm not a "Niners" fan but I am a fan. I'm a "raiders" fan. But I support all bay area sports and have always followed the niners.
I didn't think they could pull it off but Kaep has really shown a desire to do what it takes to win and Gore is really showing his worth. And the defense is... well... sick. Especially with the Smith's healthy and working together again.
This is a really tough match up. I would have preferred to face NE. I hate them and I think it's an easier match up. I think the niners would have crushed them.
THis match up is way harder. Both brothers know the other brother. They're both killer coaches. The defenses are both playing insanely hard right now. Similar running games.
The kicker is gonna be... Kaep's running and if Balt's passing game gets hot. Which it can do from time to time.
This is gonna be a bomb *** game.
If my theory holds true... that the NFL is fixed. Baltimore will win.
But I'm looking forward to seeing if Kaep can get loose and make 52 look as bad as he made the other 52 look.

Going back to Akers' kick, what was odd was that all he had to do was aim for the left pole and give it a little hook and it would have been in easily. Instead, he aimed a tad toward the right side of the left pole, and it sliced back towards the left. Wasn't like he had to deal with windy conditions. What a weird kick.

And I think you mean Clay Matthews.

Eric Walden (No. 93) didn't fare any better.

First, no replacement. We will do or die with Akers. Second, if Akers drilled it right over th upright, it's counted as good. Last, I think that final drive after brooks or whoever landed on Ryan really gave us the win because Ryan was hurt. Playing with a sprained/separated shoulder. Couldn't even heave the ball for a Hail Mary. In addition, made Ryan more weary when they were at the 16 yard line.
A Smith needs some big sacks in the Super Bowl, kinda fell off the map. I know that we see him get hits and hurries. But not enough IMO. 49ers pass rush got exposed. That's why the WRs were runnin all over the game.
One big moment in the game. After Crabtree turns it over. Rogers solo tackles Gonzales and pushes him out. Hard feat against a tight end of his caliber. Forced a punt.

Another note, the 49ers attacked the differently on the option. Whih was impressive to me. Most of the time we've see the pistols or RB go inside and Kaep reads and goes outside. This time, which was the most apparent on the LMJ Td, the sweeper got a running head start and went outside and Kaep fakes inside. So that burst of speed really surprised the Falcons. Just adds another dimension of the option. I'm still waiting to see Kaep keep one of those and run opposite direction. Usually it's a fake middle, run left or right. This time it was run right fake mid. I can't wait to see them fake right and run left.
