No TV?

I'm considering canceling my cable and phone. We only have the phone because of the dish. The stupid POS is costing us over $100 a month and we don't watch much TV these day. I like it for football season and all that but I don't even watch much of that. I wouldn't mind it if they didn't find ways to screw me out of money every other month. I friggin hate AT&T and dish. HATE IT>

Anyways.... what do you folks without TV do instead for the few things you would like to watch?

Good places to download shows/movies as we don't have internet at the house and I'd have to download them at work and bring them home.

Netflicks. Red Box. Etc.

I have a nice list of shows that I DVR but I truly spend maybe 1 night a week watching them. 2 tops.

Honestly I only have TV still because it's cheaper when you split it with 3 other roommates. I'm gonna switch to very basic cable(no dvr, no extras) and subscribe to Hulu and Netflix for $15 a month each.

netflix is wack these days, i like Hulu plus and it works great. I also work for att and have free uverse account with max everything so price is not the issue for me.

dish sucks
comcast is good (cost a lot)
att uverse is good (cost a lot)
DTV is good but like dish the lock you into a two year BS contract

just wondering why do you hate at&t? the dsl is lame for sure but the uverse service is great and has some cool interactive features, but like comcast it's not really low priced

I haven't had TV for the past 8 months and its been a lot easier than I expected. I have access to cable in my Apartment just no TV with me. I find that I do a lot more activities too. I can find most anything I want to watch online. Also I have no temptation by commercials and have pretty much cut out fast food in the last half year.

If you're in a good area, you can live off using your phone as a hotspot for internet. I've done speed tests with 4g and have gotten faster speeds than my friend does with his cable internet when I have good reception.

There's so many ways to get TV over the internet (you at most need to wait 24 hours) that if you're spending $100+/month, I'd scrap it. For streaming, there's websites, or programs like SOPCast and TVAnts. For downloads of prior TV shows, I normally stick with demonoid or eztv.

My contract with Dish is up in a few months and I am probably going to be dropping it and just keeping Netflix. Between netflix and redbox, I can watch most of what I want. There's also Amazon Prime. Not the best selection of "free" stuff, but if you pay for prime, they are effectively giving you free streaming.

We got rid of comcast last year, and now we use Netflix, Amazon Prime (rarely), and Hulu Plus since they are native apps on my Panasonic tv. The only thing I miss is live baseball, but I am going to try out the MLB app this year to see if it's worth it. The world series was a bust since they didn't stream it live, and didn't say that up front, but hopefully they'll do better during the season.

Yeah the main reason we've kept it is because we don't live in a good area. There are no wires where I live and no high speed internet or tv except dish. And there's no 4g and even the 3g can go down from time to time.

I'd basically have to download stuff on to my lap top and bring it home. We're looking at a different rental soon and possibly buying something in the next year and it'll be somewhere civilization hasn't ignored.

It's amazing how much time TV can suck up... even if you don't watch it much.

I haven't had tv service in over 5 years. I got netflix about 2 years ago. I personally use hulu (not plus) and netflix. I download my tv shows from a torrent site called demonoid (invite only).

That sounds promising.

Yeah I'm looking to spend some more time with my head in books and my back in the bow flex.

Roku2. Seriously. I dropped cable a few months ago and haven't gone back.

I get netflix, hulu, amazon prime etc all right to the TV. Unlike Apple TV, it all supports USB streaming of MKV and M4V files via a standard USB port. Also, Vimeo HD **** on the TV looks ****ing incredible. Most major news outlets also stream their content to the box, but with a bit of a delay.

It ****ing rules.
