New turbo engines from Subaru
#16
New engine + same power = why would you trade in for it then, it ain't gonna be any faster. They need to get with the times cuz every performance sporty car has gotten some power boost one way or another with every new model. Well see what happens...

E-X-A-C-T-L-Y!!! But Subaru just don't get it, i guess they haven't seen the new Mustang's transformation (new engine = new power, duh it ain't that ****ing hard). We just want a 1% better gas mileage lmfao!

Car Info: Some sort of Subaru
^This, totally agree!
What about all the speculation on a tiny 1.6L turbo boxer engine in their next WRX/STi coming in 2013 to coincide with a WRC variant, a smaller, lighter, 2 dr hatchback with nice widebody sounds tight, but idk about that engine. If you think the torque would be lower in a 2.0L, i could just imagine the lack of it in this one. It would have to be hella supped up for a street version to at least make 300 hp/tq cuz the WRC rally car has alot of race stuff it would never have to achieve that. Seems like Subaru is losing it's touch with every passing year, i'll have to wait & see how everything pans out, i personally can't stand anything they've produced from 08-11 so far. F**k gas mileage & hybrids, i want speed, power, & racing style, the future automotive landscape sucks for enthusiasts like me!

I'm actually really curious about the potential of these new motors. Sure, the rating of the 2.0 may be the same as the current STI motor, but I assume that some of the weight savings seen on the next generation Imprezas will carry over to the WRX/STI. That should make a difference.

On the other hand, realistically I don't see how it could make 350+ and still maintain it's current price range and reliability. People blow up enough motors stock, imagine 50 or 100 more horses being pushed out of that 4banger.

Here's what it means to me: APv3
Providing they are strong enough internally, I think we will actually see more power out of these cars with tuning. If they have the same setup as the NA motors, they have 8 injectors, 4 of which are for direct injection. While it is intended to help mileage, don't tell me it can't be exploited for power. I think it is a good thing, but I won't buy one unitl Subaru and the tuners have at least a year or two wring out the bugs.
The whole reason we had a 2.0 in the first place was because it was mandated for WRC rules.

I expect to see the 2 liter in the WRX/STI. The 1.6 will have to be put in something like the BRZ. The Imprezas are too big for WRC now. The cars in WRC are smaller cars like the Ford Fiesta.

I don't understand some peoples rationals here...
When you try to make more and more power (the american view lets get as much power)
how much more stress is that giving the motor and tranny.
Some people really don't want that much power, it be great to be able to expand there but, its never always about power, personally rather have something with a great weight to power ratio with good distribution over something that's probably gonna burn a ring within the first 10k but hey man I smoked HELLA cars stock.
if you want a new engine and turbo, why dont you throw it into the new one? or get another car thats meant to have high hp? always gonna be an upper limit unless you really have a pit of money and keep doing new things and keep blowing engines.

I would assume the new 2.0l engine will be lighter and they might make the new STi an overall lighter package based on the new Impreza.
It's a better design idea IMHO because a 3 things:
1) Better power to weight means you burn less fuel and can get away with a smaller displacement engine.
2) It might rev better and be MORE fun to drive ( JDM EJ20 8k redline )
3) More reliable since it will not be pushed to make more and more power to offset an increasingly portly vehicle.
I say Kudos SOA, you got this one right.
