Installed new suspension for my Legacy

I finally took the plunge and installed a more aggressive suspension.

Parts installed:
  • New springs (Jack @ iON Performance)
  • KYB GR2 struts (Tirerack)
  • Whiteline rear swaybar (PDM Racing)

The car has an entirely new (and better!) feel around corners. It's noticeably rougher during daily driving, but still well within my realm of tolerance. The huge reduction in body roll/nose dive are more than worth it.

A couple of pics:

Before any suspension work, good shot of the (then brand-new) Rota SDRs (thanks SubyDude!):

A close-up to show the drop in the front end:

Showing the entire side of the car, with the significant reduction in wheel gap in both front and back:

From the front left, showing evidence just below the headlight of an very, very gentle encounter with a speed limit sign due to overcorrection in snow this winter. Whoops.

From the front right:

The lighting in this picture helps highlight the amount of drop:

All in all, I'm very happy with the upgrade. The amount of drop is a little more significant than I was hoping, but the research I did indicated that the iON springs had the least amount of drop of any of the ones out there. The car's definitely much less of a sleeper now, but it's not enough bling to make people suspect it's a Honda (at least, that's what I'm telling myself!).

The reduction in understeer due to the swaybar is taking some getting used to. I've done some limited testing in open, deserted parking lots in the area. My impression is that the handling is pretty close to neutral at this point, but I need a few more hours with it. I've never had a car's back end slide out on me, so I doubt I'd react well. If my car is capable of it, I want to experience it in controlled circumstances several times first, hopefully reducing the pucker factor if it ever happens in actual driving.
