New to subaru's just got a wrx..(6000mi ago)

WRB subaru WRX 2002 bugeye with 39k now. got it from a older guy in Orinda he was like 50 somin and didn't enjoy commuting with stick to work for 45mins. Said he never had it reved over 5k.. Anyho back to the questions..

The car has an eratic idle just kind of a pulse drops down and comes back up.. (only run premium 91+ octane) is this the point of the grounding kit with speaker wire? Or should i take it in? I have all reciepts for work back to the purchase date and window sticker had the tune ups..

Also i bought this car with 100k extended warranty and i was just wondering is their more paper work i need to do to transfer that or does it just follow the car?

Last one.. What the deal with tranny and warranty i am 19 haven't had it long and don't drive it to hard just second and third to go climbing on mount D and santa cruz mountains.. The second to third gear shift seems to catch and rarely but sometimes get a little grind. Should i have my dad take it in so they don't assume i street race it? I do not race it but i do DRIVE it. No launching or anything to break anything.. Compared to my buddies RSX Type-S the shifting sucks i know its not as nice (test drove both) just seems a little hard..

Sorry lenghty thanks for the help

just dont let the dealership know you drive the car or the warranty will be voided.

Welcome, I too love to SC Mnt's. I stomp those grounds quite frequently. The grinding will go away with practice. New bushings will give you a little better feel for you shift.

Don't tell them i drive it? I transfered title and everything they won't look at that?

As far as shifting.. I drove 4 or 5 subarus before buying this one it shifted the best almost felt like a stock short throw is that an upgrade didn't see it on the window sticker but the previous owner said it was or he believed it to be.. He did not know much about the car and let it go way under blue book with all accessories and upgrades including subaru cover and thule bike rack

He means don't tell them that you "DRIVE" it. They will attempt to prove user abuse. As far as the warranty is concerned, I had the same concern when I bought my used WRX. Subaru says that the Extended Coverage follows the original owner, since he can have it refunded. You will need to have it signed over to you, assuming he does not have it prorated back.

Take the car to a dealership and they will help you transfer the warranty, and they will check to see if you even have an extended waranty at all.

Welcome to the club.

My idle does the same thing every so often. I've never payed it any mind though. But mostly only happens when car is cold.

As far as the tranny goes... welcome to Subaru. The third gear is always the first to go. and it'll only get worse. I have the same problem. 4th will follow close behind, depending on how hard you are on it. By the sounds of it you're not too hard yet so i wouldn't sweat it very much. Just take your time sliding it into 3rd and and have fun. The car is a blast.

consider picking up a thicker rear sway bay though. It helps a lot in the cars handling.

yeah...you have a good warranty. Take it in.

Take it to santa cruz.

I got a grind in my 04 at around the same mileage as your. Syncros stick. They'll open it. see your gears are fine. Fix it no questions asked...least that's how it went for me.

The idle problem. The grounding kit could fix that but it could be a couple other things.

Just take it in and have it looked at.

welcome aboard.

If you have the AC on, this would change the idle as the compressor kicks in...

take it to santa cruz about your grinding. it's your synchros most likely. the service manager said 1st 3rd and 4th usually have problems. they should replace them as long as the car has less than 60K.
