wow. it's about time they made those a bit cheaper. I really dislike that grey circle though. I liked the all-white a lot beter. doesn't matter anyways, i'm getting a mini. i wanna wait til apple releases a white mini.

here's my take on the ipod. i got my ex-gf a 3rd gen ipod 15 gb. sound quality wasnt that good. both my MD player and my sisters MD player sounded WAY better. like WAY BETTER. the ipod has a billion sound equalizer presets.. but they all were just mediocre. using Shure E2C cans improved the stock by at LEAST 10X. but still wasnt as good as the MD players. the batterylife was HORRIBLE. I only got 6-7 hours of batterylife out of that ipod. (i guess this is moot compared to the new generation). thing is.. all the new generation players have 25+ hour of battery life.. and Apple is stuck at 14?!? my iaudio M3L i got last week gets 35 hours of battery life. i mean.. even 14 hours is pretty pathetic considering my sisters 4 year old panasonic md player gots 20+ and my 8 year old MD player got 14!
also, having to use itunes to xfer music.. or ANY program.. sux. My iaudio m3L does straight up drag n drop from windows explorer. oh ya, AND it sounds WAY better than the ipod and has a customizable EQ.
my sister has the ipod mini.. it has MASSIVE software problems. it will just randomly lose every song on it! well, technically, the songs are still on it.. but the player just couldnt "see" them. she eventually sent it in for repair even though they said there is no fix for it. its a pretty common problem she says also. dunno if she got it back. not sure if this will affect the new ipods.
the 1 good thing about the ipod is its REALLY easy to use. like SUPER user friendly. oh, and the chicks really dig them!
for me though.. the crappy batterylife and no in-line LCD remote led me to another player.

I'm talking about the bigger ones, before the mini's came out. I bought the 10gb windows one from bestbuys, for 399 + tax which came out to be like 425 or something; sound quality sucked, even with my friends 150 dollar sony earphones m10 or something. just my 2cents

You see, the sound quality of the iPod is not because of the iPod itself but from the MP3's. The post by HongKongBeef, he compared a Mini Disc player to an iPod which is a little unfair. The sound quality of CD's and MiniDiscs are on a level beyond MP3's. If you check the kbps of CD's (the exact number escapes me right now) it is pretty high..MP3's usually range in the kbps of 128, 160, 192, or 256. And at 256 the file sizes are insanely high. So that's the reason behind the poor sound quality.
It's like comparing apples and oranges.

My friend who bought 2 of the 15 gig iPods from Best Buy a few weeks ago went back to Best Buy with her reciept to get refunded the difference. I heard some stores are doing that, but so far I've heard Best Buy is.

Why not try and bring it back to the shop and return it?

i've recorded mp3's directly to my MD player thru a analog cable and it sounded better than what came out of my ipod, and hongkongbeef is right about the battery life. It's only mediocre as over time, the battery does start to die out as this issue has been pointed oiut many times on user reviews back when i had my ipod.
