^^exactly what I was wondering too.. electric vehicles could be a true possibility with technology like this (assuming they can downsize the battery to fit)

While electric vehicles would benefit, I think we should focus on the home first, The person in that ad that mentioned our antiquated power grid being third-world is correct.

This is excellent technology, and it WILL help things like cars..but not as much as you might hope...but it is very positive.
What is missed here, are several things. While the price of the batteries is fair, it doesn't take into account, space and air flow zones - they say a refrigerator sized battery, I would guess with airflow, it'll probably take the space of a car...a lot of space to give up in most homes and it's sitting there at 200 degrees...wonderful in the summer I'm sure.
While they touch on the idea of using your own solar cells, and some new technology in this area, solar cells are still about $10,000/KW. That's just too much. Realize that 1 KW of solar cells maxes out at around 800 Watts in the summer and only about 350 Watts in the winter at best, due to the angle of incidence from the sun to the earth.
Most ppl will want 2KW of solar collectors, approx $20K without batteries.
A better way to spend $20k, IMHO, that will also net you savings on your electric bill is to re-insulate the heck out of your home, include the walls and ceilings...my ave electric bill is under $40/month...and I have no place for a breakdown nor do I have to clean my solar panels...nobody probably mentioned to you to clean your solar panels when you were installing them on the roof did they
