i guess, looking at the spec doesn't really tell me anything. I really just have to experience it to know how it is. Or someone that has gone through bunch of them.

I got this one (Pro package) and it looked REALLY good on PAPER (or php )
http://www.gisol.com/hosting/index-unix.php

But in reality, it suck **** like a b!7ch!

agreed. mediatemple is the top. a bit more expensive maybe, but like someone said above, you get what you pay for. check them out.

But you should definitely get your domain at godaddy.com. This way you will own it yourself. Don't get it through a webhost. It will be troublesome if you ever want to transfer it.

I've been using dathorn.com. I can host unlimited domains/emails for any of my clients. I've got my personal site + 4-5 client sites there. You are your own webmaster here. Use my referal if you decide to go for them: dis-1164

sonic.net is 9.95 a year which is much less than most, and slightly more than godaddy. and you get full control of it.

That table doesn't tell you anything unless you know what all those numbers stand for.

oh... hehe... numbers are ranks 1 being the best. So you look for the lowest total. But not all review sites cover all the web hosting servers, that's why in the second table you see all the empty ranks being filled with the lowest rank from each of the sites.

With that said LunarPages, StartLogic, and PowWeb are the top three by review ranking and most popular (most reviewed).

All accounts come with a single MySQL database. While you may think you need more (multiple installation of phpBB or Gallery), the real thing to use is table name prefixes. Even on my own server (colocated), I have a single database for each user.

As far as server uptime is concerned, are you looking for a percentage? While most hosting providers will promise 99% uptime, have you ever stopped to do the math? In the span of a year, 99% uptime amounts to 87 hours of downtime. At HE we reboot servers when it is needed (ie. the system is unstable or unuseable).

We do keep spare hardware (drives, mobos, CPU's, power supplies, RAM, etc) on hand to replace anything that's died in a server. Drive failures are inevitable, as is the failure of any mechanical device, so each morning at the plumber's crack of dawn (3am) we create backups of the drives in every server. When a drive does fail, it is merely a matter of swapping out the failed drive with a new one, and then booting the system.

We (the techs) are at the facility 24 hours a day, answering calls and emails (and IM's if you happen to be nice to us :-)), and generally keeping an eye on things.

We may not be the cheapest hosting out there, but we do the job right, and I know our current customers appreciate that. So if you have any other questions, either post them here or shoot me an email at jeffw@he.net

Oh, our newest servers are dual Opteron systems. Even I want one of these, but I can't seem to coax one out of network admin's hot little hands. Bummer, eh?
