Detonation sounds like a clicking/rattling. If you romp on it and it makes a weird sound, it is most likely detonation. I know that engine management is expensive but I would suggest getting it. You can get by without it, but with our high compression you need it. And in my case I gained about 35+ whp and the ability to run safely with the TEC2 kit. I used a J&S safeguard for a while, but it wouldn't cut it.

Detonation: Take a piece of metal and tap against the windshield - that is sort of what detonation sounds like.

My guess, due to my own poor installation proceedures, is that you have a leak. Probably an exhaust leak, but it could be a turbo leak.

Take it to a mechanic, like Doug at Diablo Imports and let him see.

I am pretty certain nothing you could do by removing reinstalling a turbo would cause Det, but leak, oh yeah, been there done that .

Good Luck!

"Another interesting question - how to adjust a wastegate to open at higher RPMs?"

This may just compound your detonation problem. Trust me when I tell ya. You WILL destroy that engine unless you get some sort of controll of the detonation. It's just a matter to time. If you have not upgraded to the parallel fuel rail mod yet, I would. Also, get a J&S Safegaurd at least. Perhaps someone here on the club could hook you up with one if they have it for sale. I hope you get a handle on it. Good luck...
