NEED HELP with finding a non-suby mechanic

My g/f has a VW cabrio that needs some work and maintanence done. We'd REALLY like to find a good independant VW mechanic in our area (Folsom/Sacramento). So, does anyone know of one?

Also, if anyone knows any big VW car clubs where I can go ask the same question, that would be good as well.

Much appreciated.

check out "bugformance", I am not sure exactly where they are located but, they can help you out, if not, they can point you in the right direction...

EDIT: I think Bugformance is only in San Jose.....but I could have sworn that there was one in Sac too.

also, there used to be a VW shop on Auburn Blvd (Auburn and Watt). next door to Central 4WD (I used to work there) and I would see all kinds of different V-Dubs at that place every day. I forgot what its called, and I dont even know if it is still there....but its worth a shot.

The best place I've tried so far is Vee Dub Motorwerkes. I called them up... maintanence aint cheep, but it's cheaper there then the dealer!

$385 for 90k service
$285 for timing belt
$155 for valve gasket

I guess that's not too bad.

I have the place...

Larry's Autoworkz, located on 4th / X St in downtown Sac

They are the super-legit. Most VDub folks know of these guys. Super honest and very dependable. They have worked on my 62 rag several times and have always done a great job.

Look em up in the white pages

dub2w: do you have any info on larry's experience/certifications at all?

Great recommendation though. Thanks. I just called and talked to Larry. He sure seemed knowledgeable. He also seemed to want to convey to me over the phone that he was knowledgable But overall, since I'm planning to have the timing belt done, he gave the idea that all the other things I want to have done can be taken care of for relatively cheap along the way since the whole area will be opened up... and he gave pricing that sounded cheaper then Vee Dub

500ish for the 90k service, timing belt, valve cover gasket and coolant leaks.
about 100 more for the water pump.

Good stuff.

Not sure about that, but that guy has been professionally working on VWs for decades. He is the one to take your car too. Trust me... take it to Larry!

PM me with your number if you want to talk in person
